Now that we can put 6 songs on myspace I have re-loaded 2 Scots songs.
Comin' thro' the rye is in celebration of the Burns season here in Scotland and is dedicated to all the "lassies" on myspace.
The song Durisdeer was written by Lady John Scott who was married to Lord John Scott, brother to the fifth Duke of Queensberry. The first two verses of the song give no indication of the place itself but the third verse (see http://www.rampantscotland.com/poetry/blpoems_durisdeer.htm) refers to the church in the village.
Durisdeer is a tiny little village which nestles in the Lowther hills above Thornhill in Dumfriesshire. The parish church houses the Dukes of Queensberry mausoleum and the monument to second duke (d. 1711) and his duchess (d. 1709) has them reclining beneath columns and flying cherubs.
In the summer time the ladies of the guild provide a wonderful cream tea.
