Welcome one and all to this introduction to The Red Line Festival. This year it is the ripe old age of two and has loads of spec for fresh minds, talents and ideas to help it grow so this is a great time to grab a piece of it for yourself and to get involved now. We need people for an array of events like running beer tasting competitions, running our mini cinema, running a pub crawl, stage managing, sound engineering, artist liason... and loads more.

We are having an induction and introduction meeting at 6pm in Sin é on Ormond Quay on Wednesday 23rd -

Welcome to The Red Line Festival, it all started last year on a wild and blistery October Bank Holiday weekend in 2008. We began by linking three pubs surrounding Smithfield that were built by a passion for music, The Cobblestone, Dice Bar and Sin É. These pubs didn’t play any old chart or pop, no sir ee, we kept it raw and rootsy. The Cobblestones fire was fueled Irelands best Trad sessions carrying you away into the night and our back room venue hosting Old Time, Bluegrass and Country that fell right out of the mountains it was born in. Down the road in the Dice Bar it was a bit more hell and brimstone with hard hitting Rockabilly and Garage Blues. Sin É became a melting pot of events with music from the pre 6o’s Gramophone Disco, live rock n’roll and blues, filming screenings and backgammon championships.  We wrapped the weekend up with a sold out East meets West showdown gig that became as wild and blistery inside as it was out.

We are now preparing ourselves for another onslaught of gigs and events from Fri 23th – Sun 25th of October that will draw you in for a whirlwind weekend and leave you feeling like lost tumbleweed come Monday morning.

Roots music has always had a close connection to its physical surroundings. Be it the instruments that are plucked, the bar where the music is played, or the history and stories that are sung within its songs. Smithfield holds so much history and it’s ripe for a cultural and creative revival In recent years we have seen commercial business carting out of Smithfield leaving empty shops, bars and hotels brimming with potential. The nearby This is not a Shop gallery and The Lighthouse Cinema are prime examples of what could come if enough inspiration can be poured into the area The Red Line Roots Festival aims to further promote the music that thrives in these already established bars, however, it also seeks to facilitate the creation of new connections between musicians, artists, businesses, locals and visitors alike.

The festival is currently independently ran without sponsorship by a small pool of local business owners and arts fanatics with an aim to grow and become more inclusive of new venues and ideas. We already have a steady flow acts and ideas for events and are available to meet you to discuss further inclusions. We also need volunteers to help our vagabond musicians find the stage and help the magic happen. All skills from photography, assistant sound engineers, stage managing, artist liason, ticket sales, beer tasting and boot cleaning are needed so please do get in contact.
Please email us back with 'Volunteer' in the subject matter and attached form filled in.
