Fred Thompson might be the first major US politician to blog about Monty Python, Queen Elizabeth and Salman Rushdie:

"I was impressed by the knighthood of author Salman Rushdie and the British reaction to the predictable outrage that followed. That's not to say I'm a big fan of the British-Indian novelist. I don't agree with a lot of his criticism he's made of America and the UK in the past. But that's the point, really. In the West, we can disagree strongly with someone without issuing fatwas and calling for his death. We can even honor someone with whom we disagree."

I wish I could come see you in Nashville...just don't have enough gas money. :(

I think political correctness should be abandoned. It has begun limiting FREE SPEECH. Why in a country founded on the principle of Free Speech ends up being unable to exercise that right without fear of repercussions for being a bigot, racist or any of a number of names people will throw at them. I'm against the Immigration reform Congress is trying to pass. Does that make me racist against Mexicans??? I don't think so, but thats the way some Democrats are playing it. I think we should deport the illegals if it was possible. But I'm realist and know that all of them aren't drug dealers and gang members.

Well im getting off track from what this latest message was about. Run Fred RUN....PLEASE! :)

I believe Senator Feinstein should take a lesson from Sir Rushdie, and stop trying to put a fatwas on talk radio. This is the land of free speach, no matter your side.

Mr. Thompson,

You have my vote. You are just what we need right now. I'm registered, I have a lawn and I'm ready for your sign! I am, and always have been, a Fred Fan.
Good grief, I hope you're our next president!

Many Americans appreciate "FreeDumb." Rushdie or whomever we disagree with is "free to be dumb"...because...each of us are dumb on occasion...yes even YOU! Candid & humble Americans value a system that is not hypocritical...I want some leeway for something I do that is inevitable, "stupidity" so I should allow leeway for the other "poor fool" who can't be as smart as me!

Didn't Mohommed call for the death of a poet who wrote unflattering things about him?

This perspective (and others) by Mr. Thompson is a reason I am excited about his entering the race.

I hope that Britain will exert economic pressure on Pakistan in response to all the protests within the Pakistani Parliament as well as on the street. That would be showing backbone.
