Wow, after first being beaten on by UMG, then Hacked, DivX has officially ceased support for the Stage6.com web site.

Their support of the site had to be expensive, considering it had the HIGHEST QUALITY video on the web, which takes more bandwidth, and thus more money. DivX cited this as the reason for taking the site down, but I feel it had a lot to do with the UMG suit over copyright infringement. Stage6 had been "adopted" by a large audience that included folks with no concern for copyright. Movies and manga and music videos and TV shows were all over the site, and depending on the "honor system" to keep copyrighted materials off the site just wasn't working.

I had a channel on Stage6, with videos I had shot while working as a videographer here in Detroit. Of the 26 videos I had a chance to post, only one person had an issue with their set being posted. But I respect their right to make that decision, and took it down.

I have started over on VEOH.COM with a new channel, and hopes that they will improve the quality of the site over time, as it currently is just not up to the standard set by Stage6.
