From Terrorizer #185
The stifling Texas summers defy categorisation. The winds seem non-existent and mangled roadkill assaulted by teeming, bloated flies unceremoniously roast on sun-bleached cracked asphalt. In such an unforgiving climate it comes as no surprise that some of America's heaviest, nastiest extreme metal is created here. San Antonio's Hod (Norse god of darkness and winter) featuring ex-Thornspawn, Necrovore and GG Allin members are a relatively a new unit - one demo "Cry and Piss Yourself" appeared in 2007 - plying their deadly trade via bludgeoning blackened death metal. The crisp and drum-heavy production evokes Texas' notorious climate - dry - but for debut "Serpent" holds it own if you worship non-commercalised, uncompromising and slighty unhinged death metal reminiscent, at times, of early Deicide. The unpolished musicianship is fairly well accomplished and orchestrated, but "Serpent" highlight is the cruel, unfeeling vocal exhortations of one Beer Reebs. There is a new serpent in the garden, friends, and murder most foul, not temptation, passes on his carrion reeking breath.
