Starting July 1st we have new hours, below is a note from the director.
Monday CLOSED
Tuesday 2 to 8
Wednesday 10 to 6
Thursday 2 to 8
Friday 10 to 2
Saturday 10 to 2Do you want the good news or the bad news
first? Okay, here’s the good news, we are still open and still serving all your
needs including being your resource for required school summer reading, a
destination for great programs for kids of all ages all summer long, and your
source for research, pleasure, technology and current events.
The bad news is we have had to cut our hours
to do all this. Initially we were hoping to cut back during July and August so
we could then increase our hours and better serve our community when school is
in session.
Unfortunately, it seems local aid to Monson
will be reduced even more and there is a very real possibility that the library
will once again be cut. If this does happens, we will be in grave danger of
being decertified by the state. That means we will not receive state aid money,
you will not be able to borrow items.
from other libraries through delivery, AND
YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO GO TO OTHER NEIGHBORING LIBRARIES AND BORROW ITEMS.
OTHER LIBRARIES WILL NOT LEND TO DECERTIFIED COMMUNITIES. The state requires
that a town support its library. Is it fair for another town to bear the
burden?
And to think, just
last year we were open 52 hours per week. But before you grumble, look at the
hours carefully. We have put much thought into what is convenient for you. We
are still providing morning hours, evening hours and Saturdays. Hopefully you
can find a day that works for you.
One final note
about reductions, for the months of July and August, the DeSantis Community
Room will not be available for community use. Utilities and staff time are key
factors in this decision. We are not taking reservations for the fall until our
budget numbers are finalized. We are very sorry, and heartbroken actually, that
we have had to make these concessions. Hopefully it will only be for the summer
months.
