Current mood: ecstatic
This month we've gone slightly boxset crazy in the Tartan Video office and are today unleashing to the world, via the shops, the following collections of gems. NB All are perfect for christmas presents (for other people as well as yourself!)
In the 'Triple' series:
THRILLER TRIPLE Includes THE MACHINIST, THE WOODSMAN and WONDERLAND Three classic and highly acclaimed thrillers including such acting talent as Christian Bale, Kevin Bacon and Val Kilmer.
CHILLER TRIPLE Includes HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, MONSTER MAN and TATTOO Three horror films including Rob Zombie's classic debut, a slasher thriller from the director of Shoot Em Up and a Seven-style serial killer flick from German master Robert Schwenke (Flightplan).
KILLER TRIPLE Includes ED GEIN, BUNDY and THE HILLSIDE STRANGLER Three vicious films looking at some of America's most notorious serial killers - here's a quote from a review of the latter: "This film is repulsive, exploitative, semi-pornographic, violent, sadistic and yet fascinating." Sounds good eh?
And in the Documentary Essentials series:
DOCUMENTARY ESSENTIALS: PROTEST Includes SUPER-SIZE ME, WAL-MART: THE HIGH COST OF LOW PRICE and THE YES MEN Put on your protest boots and march! Or... put on your slippers and watch these and then see how you feel afterwards. There's some real issues here but whatever your mindset these three are all fascinating and blackly funny films.
DOCUMENTARY ESSENTIALS: MUSIC Includes END OF THE CENTURY: THE STORY OF THE RAMONES, THE DEVIL AND DANIEL JOHNSTON and MAYOR OF THE SUNSET STRIP You dont need to be a music fan to appreciate these - all three documentaries, on classic modern icons The Ramones, Daniel Johnston and Rodney Biggenheimer, are not just full of music but offer plenty of laughter, tears and an engaging insight into fame, creativity, fortune and misfortune.
Also out today:
BASKET CASE The legendary exploitation classic returns! Get yourself a necessary and much needed dose of both gore and brutal comedy in this murderous outing for those siamese twins separated at birth - one's a normal man, the other's a deformed basket-living freak - both are out for revenge. From master genre man Frank Henelotter.
And last but not least:
OLDBOY BLU-RAY The newest of our future-proof editions sees this (other) classic revenge drama getting the awesome high-defintion treatment on the Blu-ray disc - as well as the package including a DVD edition for those of you who want to invest in new technology, without actually spending the big bucks stratight away - watch the DVD now - own the BD for later!
