	jim	You know TC, this really has nothing to do with President Obama.  And everything to do with you and your pigeon holing everyone by their color.  Everyone has these preconceived notions about stuff in life.  Your preconeived notion is about color and how that will effect your interaction with that individual or group.  There are people of Japanese origin right here in America.  They have lived here for generations, can verily speak english.  Yet they aren't Japanese from Japan.  Technically they are born Americans, but they exist on the fringe of American culture.  They hear about Japan from their grandparents, even practice many of the ancestral cultural practices of the past.  But they aren't Japanese people.  They are a micro culture unto itself.  You can't nor would expect that these people would act like mainland Japanese people.  You certianly would not expect them to act like a typical white Americans.  The American heart land is full of small micro cultures like this.  Many of theses micro cultures are relgious in nature.  You made the assertion that if the "typical white" Americans don't like the new president or his policys that they would return to Europe?  Why would they do that?  They might be white like some Europeans, but they are Americans not some European hedging his bets.  These white people would not even be accepted by the Europeans because the Europeans see them as American.  To you I get the feeling that race is the end all of self identity.  I don't believe that to be the case.  I think nationalism is the strongest self identifier.  The African continent is rocked by civil war.  Nationalism or tribalism are more stronger than race, there.  You are a Jamacian by birth and heritage.  If you moved to Africa that would not change.  The native sons of Africa would see you as an outsider.  Someone with an accent and different life style.  Some in Africa may accept you as a friend, but many would always see you as a foreign national.  Remember the blog about South Africans injuring other Africans.  It was all about nationality and not race.  Those Native South Africans couldn't even see other black Africans as friends, but seen them as competitors.  Nationality is almost everything in the modern world;  It separates the Germans from the French, The Koreans from the Chinese, The Japanese from the Chinese.  Why is nationality so strong?  The more mobile humanity gets the more important nationality becomes.  Nationality binds people together who are not related or of the same ethnic or religious background.  Nationality makes democracy possible.  Without nationality America would descend into tribalism too.  So enjoy Jamaica, kick you feet back and have a cold one, for it is your home.   Posted by jim on October 31, 2009 - Saturday - 10:09 PM [Reply to this]

	Aaron	Abraham Lincoln once said that you can fool all of the people some of the time or some of the people all of the time but you can't do both.  Obama and the Democrats should've paid attention to this as it would've saved them a lot of grief.  In 2006 and 2008, America was sick of the Republicans not because they said they were conservative but because they failed to act in a way that would demonstrate that they were conservatives.  The Democrats have mistaken anger at Bush and the Republicans to mean that Americans want socialism, but this is not the case.  A WSJ/NBC news poll yesterday confirmed an earlier Rasmussen poll in saying that conservatives are the largest political ideology in the U.S. followed closely by moderates.  Liberals are a distant third.  What does this mean? It means a number of things.  Firstly, it means that there are more Democrats than liberals, yet its the far left that runs the Democratic party.  It also means that there are a lot more conservatives than Republicans.  If the Democrats want to hold on to power, they need to be more conservative.  If the Republicans want to regain power, they need to be more conservative as well.  Instead, the Democrats are staying just as liberal as always.  If the Republican party can pull its collective head out of its collective ass, they will run as many real conservatives as possible and make clear distinctions between themselves and the democrats. The polls also show that the Democratic majority in the House is in serious peril.  There are over 50 Democratic reps who are in districts that McCain carried.  If the Democrats don't seriously change thier tune, they're going to be out of power after the 2010 elections in the House and possibly the Senate as well and Obama will end up a 1-termer. All that said, I think that Obama and the Democrats want socialism, but I don't think that they'll achieve it.  There's too much infighting between the radical, moderate and conservative members of thier own party and they'll have no Republican support, so the end result is going to be a lot of dickering that produces either no new law or new law that's so watered down as to be ineffectual anyways.   Posted by Aaron on October 30, 2009 - Friday - 10:46 AM [Reply to this]
