Current mood: satisfied
Well, friends, the new album is mixed, tucked in, put to bed, and on it's way to Friday Records. To all of you who sent emails, messages, and myspace bulletins to them asking about it, thank you.... but much of the delay was mine. After some time brushing up against the "Nashville machine", my course became clear- Follow the road open to me, as an independent, "boutique" artist who delivers a self-produced album to the label for distribution and marketing. Artistic control is in my hands, as is my fate. But understand, you must, of course, deliver something a record company thinks people would buy and something they can, in this fractured business, figure out HOW to market - no easy job for them or the artist. The company can love you, love your music, but not know what to do with you.....and it's not really any fault of theirs.... the music business is insane.... So, with that in mind, I decided to go with the same frame of mind I had when I recorded "Midnight in Nowhere".... which was " no one is listening, no one cares, so I might as well make music that I like", and that little album did more than I ever thought it would. This collection of songs, recorded live in the studio then fleshed out, tells the ongoing saga of my usual cast of characters - it's all one long story. The album, "Wasted Avenue", is a tale of heartbreak, disillusionment... and hope, and something that Friday Records, and Rick Jarrard in particular, have been supporting and encouraging all along the way. A big shout-out thank you to them, and you, Ricardo.... let me tell you friends, you become a better artist if the guy you are working with is a music fan, musician, has actually done it, listens to every lyric, is a hit producer, really cares.... let's just say the bar is raised. I will have a light schedule of shows for the month of February - I will be in the studio producing some songs for a young artist from Israel, who's flying in the first week...... ......... HOWEVER.............. VALENTINE'S DAY!!! I'm playing a great coffeehouse in Southington, Ct. called "Jitters" and here's what I'm gonna do.... the album is scheduled for a summer release, but I'm going to bring 10-20 copies of the album - burned right off the mix in the studio, not even mastered, and give them away free to anyone who buys a copy of the other two - "Midnight in Nowhere" or the live solo tour recording "Midnight Xpresso"..... or anyone else... hell, I'll sign them if ya want.... so, hope to see you, we'll be video recording some songs for future release, and it would be a nice way to spend time with someone you love.... The next issue will have stories from the recording, how it was done, who did what... oh, yeah... many tales to tell.... until we meet again, happy trails.... adios amigos..... bri
