RATE Records is pleased to announce the addition of Winder, GA based Singer/Songwriter, Poet, Artist Justin Blackstock to our Artist-Member Roster!!
"Music is my drug of choice that one can never run out of; it will always be there the lift you up, to capture a memory, or heal the pain." - Justin Blackstock As with most musicians, Justin grew up intrigued by the noises inside his headphones. Introduced at an early age to a broad range of style from Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, to Ray Charles and Bill Withers, he was moved by the sounds of before his time and picked up the guitar at age fifteen in hopes of inspiring the masses as he was, by the wonderful melodies that surrounded him.
It was at this age that he met his musical mentor and soul brother, Adam Schubert, who was inspired by Justin’s poetry styling that was instilled in him by his late mother. The two began working on forming a rock band with Justin on bass. In his early learning he started loud and fast with his instruments but, as time (and drummers) went on, playing the bass forged his style into a much more soulful and groovy sound.
"When Michael Crane joined our band on drums, his improvisational style opened the door to the improvisation I had in me. That’s when things got groovy and funky for me. We can jam on anything for hours…I don’t think a natural disaster could interrupt our flow."After many roster changes and six years of hard work, the band (known as Innerview) had it’s mainstay members and was picking up steam when unforeseen circumstances forced a hiatus. Not content with blending into the retail society, Justin continued writing songs on his acoustic guitar (fondly named Jazz). He plays for himself as a way of dealing with the trials, tribulations, and dark visions that the world has to offer instead of resorting to antisocial and immoral behavior. He also plays to provide the idea that, no matter how much disillusionment surrounds us, there is always hope.
