Soccer in the U.S. hasn't had the reputation of bringing Americans together, nor has it even brought the revenue that most owners would like to see. While the other sports such as swimming and basketball seem to predicate U.S. dominance soccer seems to be on the other side of the spectrum. But the sport seems to be picking up steam in these Olympic games.
Following the win over Japan, there's new light shed on the team that has been quite dissappointing in the past. Although not spectacualar, the 1-0 finish against a formidable Japan, has sparked a new chance the American team has at giving the world a reason to respect not only the athletes themselves but the sport in the U.S.
These guys are in a difficult bracket these games, playing against the well-refined Dutch, competetive Nigeria and Japan. With the game against the Dutch approaching this Sunday the Americans have a chance to prove to the world that it can play up to its potential.
Stuart Holden may have started a new enthusiam of scoring with his performance against Japan. Others such as veteran Mike McBride, prolific scorers Clint Dempsey, Brian Ching and Landon Donovan will play a key roll in how efficient the U.S. team will be in the hunt for the cup.
