We have been getting a LOT of questions about the xHATE EDGEx slogan on our merchandise. Almost everyday I go to our inbox and someone is pissed off, confused, or happy about our slogan, so I thought I'd make a blog about it to clear up the confusion.
NORRIS does not hate the straight edge mentality, nor do we endorse it. Our music is very aggressive and 'Hate-Filled', so we thought HATE EDGE would be a fitting/amusing tag for our movement. After having many good laughs over it, we threw it on a shirt and it sold like hot cakes...
Then kids started telling us that there are HATE EDGE groups in the United States. Some are neo-nazi groups (who should be beaten to a pulp) and some are militant bastards that beat up dudes like us who smoke and drink. All of this seems to be going on in Utah, so we can't wait to get down there and play with the band GAZA (who are from Utah...check em out) and get stomped. And then there are those people who think Hate Edge means we hate the straight edge movement.
So if you are confused about that shit, I hope this clears it up. Here is what Curtis Norris had to say after someone was all like "Don't you like Converge? Why do you hate Edgers?":
"I grew up in the southern Ontario straight edge hardcore scene, where I've seen converge play often. I really respect what straight edge did for me, and I'm glad that I didn't do any mind-altering things until I was 18. 18 is right around the time when kids start thinking for themselves, and realizing they can have a few drinks and joints without destroying their minds. Straight Edge is a good system to protect young undeveloped minds, which drugs can quickly deteriorate. We are all aware of the militant straight edge movement titled "hate edge", but we are just really hateful and think its funny. None of us are straight edge, and we all live our lives on a day to day basis."
So if that doesn't clear it up, then come see us on tour and lets have a drink over it.
Enough of that, let's get back to the music. What's up with the Nor? Well, we have our album being re-mastered as we speak, and we think everyone will be pleasantly surprised with the new sound. We also added some aural treats to it that weren't there before, so stay tuned. We will be properly releasing it on a brand new label, and we will have distro across Canada so that everyone can pick it up.
We will be posting the WHOLE THING on myspace when it is ready and we will have a new pretty layout for your eyes to enjoy. So there.
Earlier this month we broke in our new guitarist, Sean Von Skilstadt. We wrote some new earth shattering tunes and played our 1st show of 2009. And it was more fun than I think we have ever had as a band.
We will be touring ALL of Canada in May/June 2009, (except the east...we'll see you in November), so If you want to see us in your city, let us know.
More to come......
