I just got back from producing and recording some of my music in Nashville. I arrived in Nashville on Tuesday of last week and went right to the studio to start singing final lead vocals. I decided to sing "Ramblin Man" first because I wrote this song about 5 years ago and know it very well. I can't believe what this song has turned into. I finished "Ramblin Man" and worked on a ballad called "Please Come Home Tonight". I have been practising this song a lot and feel I delivered really good vocals.
I was happy to meet Sam Levine in the studio on Wednesday morning. He brought his entire sax collection and put it to good use. As a studio musician, Sam has contributed to recordings by such legendary recording artists as the Neville Brothers, Michael McDonald, Clint Black, Amy Grant, Andy Williams, Etta James and many more. As a solo artist, Sam has collaborated with Christopher Cross, Whitney Houston, Al Jarreau, Lizza Minnelli, The Nashville Chamber Orchestra and CeCe Winans to name a few. I was amazed at how much he added to my music. The sax is an instrument I have always loved and I am so glad I have Sam playing it on several of my songs. Thanks Sam for your hard work and amazing talent!
Jay and I continued my lead vocal track on the rest of the songs on Wednesday afternoon. We started background vocals and harmonies on Thursday morning. I got to the studio around 9:00am and Michael Black was already working out the harmonies for a song I wrote entitled "Gently Breathe". Michael has performed background vocals on many artists albums including, Michael Bolton's - Greatest Hits, Lee Ann Rimes - How Do I Live, Vanessa Williams - Oh How The Years Go By, Clint Black - Put Yourself In My Shoes, John Michael Montgomery - Life's A Dance, The Eagles Tribute Album, CeCe Winans - Tribute To Andre Crouch, Leann Womack/Willie Nelson - Mendocino County Line, Toby Keith, Randy Travis, Lorrie Morgan and many more. Michael really enhanced the overall quality of each song he sang background on. I want to thank him for his awesome voice and great conversation we had in the studio.
Dana McVicker came in the studio next to put female background vocals on several songs, I was really impressed with her voice. Dana was signed to Capitol Records several years back and has a really successful career in music. Dana sang background vocals for one of my favorite country music singers, Travis Tritt. Her female voice really took some of my songs to another level, thanks Dana!
I am so happy with how the music turned out. I never would have imagined the songs I wrote would have come this far. Until next time, stay focused and good things will happen!
