Current mood:  worried
Category: Pets and Animals
I saw this story on Good Morning America today and I wanted to share it with you all.

As some of you may know, I have an obsession with animals and generally like them more than most people;) I'm a HUGE believer in rescuing dogs/cats and this story really touched me.

Dogsindanger.com is a non profit animal welfare organization dedicated to helping dogs in need. They post photos of dogs that are in shelters and days away from being euthanized. Shelters across the country are overcrowded and euthanization is the only option if the animal is not adopted in a timely matter.

Every animal deserves a decent quality of life and it broke my heart when I heard a dog gets put down every 9 seconds!!!!

We all know someone who is thinking about getting a dog....maybe they will consider adopting one instead of getting one at the pet store? It's worth a shot. All of my animals are rescues and as crazy as they all are- they are even more grateful.
Many thanks,
Marla

The last few dogs and cats that joined the family all came from adoption and rescues.

hi marla,
i read that story on the ap. i agree they are doing a great service. i am not the kind of person who would ever sit around with people just talking about how much i love animals in general, but i do get very attached to my pets, which are currently my two little guinea pig roommates, harvey and sneakers. as i was searching for a best buddy for harvey, i learned a lot on the internet about pet stores who sell animals and the need for many animals to be adopted from shelters and rescues. thank you for posting this.
p.s. hope to hear back from you whenever you get a chance to listen to the cd.

I'm working on convincing my parents to let me adopt another dog. I've adopted one and I'm constantly suggesting for people to adopt rather than buy. I'm big on adopting pets, I even did a speech for class on it once.

"He's my kind of Rain"

I am like you as far as a love for animals goes:). I have a little peice of heaven, a mini farm in utah that I have an abundance of rescued pets on. They are from auctions, and rescues, and each little one has the most amazing personality. The funny thing is my Husband was anti-animal when he met me, and now he is just as much in love with them as I am! I never understood quite what it was that bonded me to be surrounded by animals, other than the idea that they are my Zen, my peace and comfort and I do so love them! Sorry to rant on but it is nice to hear someone talk about them like the gift they are rather than a tool in hunting or reproduction uses. I see so many discarded after people condem them to be useless. In my life I have found some of my greatest friendships through my animals.

Thanks again for letting me rant.....sorry heehee!

I agree Ms. Marla. Every animal I've ever owned was adopted. Two were personal rescues. I loves me my animals.

First I just want to say thank you Marla for allowing me to post this here!! I really do appreciate it.

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/430096543

Hey ya'll!! I just wanted to say that the above link is a petition to help save an adorable 2 month old puppy who goes by the name Miracle.. Earlier this month, in Detroit, Miracle was the victim of an act of cruelty. She (along with 4 other puppies) were taken to an abandoned home by teenagers who hog-tied the dogs and then set the house on fire. Miracle was the only one out of those puppies to survive that fire but she has first, second and third degree burns covering 80% of her little body and she has a 50/50% chance of making it. Miracle has undergone surgery to remove the dead skin tissue so that new tissue can grow and prevent infection but she has a lot more surgeries to go still. By signing the petition, you'll be helping Miracle. The teenagers that did this haven't been punished. They haven't even been caught! When you go into the above link, it will take you to the petition so you can sign it. Above the petition you'll see a scroll bar. If you scroll down a little bit, you'll see a blog link that takes you to updates on Miracle and some pictures. There's also a little video of her. If you'd like to go one step further, you can also donate money. So please, pass this petition on to someone you know who is an animal/dog lover. The petition needs 10,000 signatures. Don't do it because I asked, do it for Miracle!

Thank you again Marla!! It's great to see someone like yourself fighting for an animals life. Every animal DOES deserve a chance at life.

My dog "Phantas" was a rescue, found outside my window the night before the DEADSY Phantasmagore CD release party, hence "Phantas-tic." I had to wait to buy the CD cuz I had to buy him food :D but he has been adaptable in general and I had to laugh about your story. Did you mean you like animals generally more than (you like) most people? Or just that you like animals more than most people do? lol Happy Holly-days. Sorry about the annoying Spambots. I hate them too.

Thanks for posting this site!!

One day I want to open up a non-profit shelter for stray and abandoned animals, every time I see a kitten or dog out in the street, or a parking lot, I ALWAYS have this urge to save it, but right now I just don't have anywhere to keep them, and alot of shelters only give them like 7 days before they euthanize them, and the humane societies always seem so full -- which breaks me heart. I am SUCH an animal lover. My cat BayLee -- she is like my CHILD. Seriously - I love her more then anything -- and just knowing that some of these animals WERE someone's pet at some point - it's really sad.

But again, thank you for posting this site - I'll definately check it out :)
