I've just returned from putting up campaign posters. It's a great deal of fun, really. And driving home to see my name on a sign was quite spectacular. The unfortuante part was when someone found a grammatical error in one of my brouchures. Annoying!

Anyway, I guess it's worthwhile posting some of my policy information here. Perhaps the easiest starting point is my 150 word statement. This is a supporting statement that goes out with all the ballot papers and is the primary way most people decide who to vote for. It's not comprehensive, but it's a good start. Keep an eye out for more details coming soon!

I am twenty years old and I want to provide a breath of fresh air on Kingborough Council.

I love Kingborough because of the unique quality of life this community offers.

Council should be a consultative body. True consultation means going to people and saying "here is a problem we have identified, here are some possible solutions, what do you think?"

The strategic direction for Council needs to be set by a community plan formulated by the entire community.

I want to encourage sustainable development aimed at maintaining our quality of life.

Our community needs better infrastructure and more open spaces.

It is essential that volunteers, community events and organisations are supported by Council.

We need to address road safety issues (such as hooning) that we face in Kingborough. This has to start with dialogue involving all road users.

I agree with road safety being an issue. my major concern is the junction of Summerleas Road and the Huon Highway. I've had 3 near misses turning right from Summerleas towards Hobart can something been done about it?? Lights, roundabout anything to make it safer. When the new High School is built someone will be injury given an increase in traffic coming from the school onto the Huon Highway.
What do you think?

There is a massive problem with the Summerleas Road and Huon Highway junction. There are some suggestions for change to that intersection and I'm not sure which one is the most appropriate. Some sort of study needs to be done to determine what the best model is for change.

What I DO know is that the Tasmanian government has $15M allocated to the Kingston bypass which will now be covered by the federal government. That could be spent on improving our other road infrastructure - not just fixing that intersection but also repairing the many rural roads in dire need of repair.
