I recently found a website (www.zreomusic.com) that is devoted to recreating the music in all the Zelda games. Yes, this sounds slightly geeky (the people involved in this project must have a lot of time on their hands), but I've always been a fan of the music in the Zelda video games and various classic Nintendo games, but never really found anything that was up to par. Everything that I've come across sounded very hokey and poorly done. I mean the music in the games wasn't amazing, just basic MIDI, but there was something about those tunes that made every level memorable. It's not uncommon that the music from Nintendo games has been performed orcherstrally: I have a CD of a live orcherstra performance of Super Smash Brothers Melee, but until I found out about zreomusic, that was the only good recording of Nintendo music I had found.
At first I thought zreomusic was an actual orcherstra that decided to record music from the Zelda games, but then I read into it more:

Is it a real orchestra? No. The ZREO team uses high-end sequencer synthesizers to transcribe the sounds of legend. From there, the MIDI's created by our musical team are sent through sound libraries, where the computerized sounds are transformed into very realistic and believable orchestrated masterpieces that are must-haves for any Zelda fan!

It really would take a well trained ear to recognize that it actually isn't real orchestra music. It sounds entirely realistic to me.
I would suggest listening to the music from Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess because they are the newest and best quality tracks that I have heard so far. There are older tracks that they are actually redoing with better programs so that they sound more realistic. You can listen to the music on the website or you can download it  all free of charge.
So even if you find this entirely geeky and nerdy, take a listen and simply enjoy the music for what it is. For video game music to transfer so easily to orchestra music proves that the people who wrote the music for these games are freakin genuises.
