Well, a new block, new computers, new everything that can be new, and still the troubles continue with my outboard. Got it back and thought I could get a couple of good days of fishing. Of course, the fishing gods had other thoughts.
I had out a little late on Sunday morning, after waiting for my wife to wake up. I launched and headea to a little spot that I hadn't fished in a while. The water levels were extremely high, cloudy, with rain intermittent during the morning. I cranked my motor and was happy to hear how it was running. It sounded stronger than it ever has and I couldn't wait to hit the flats and open it up a little. I did. It jumped up without a problem and I ran to my spot. I poled the area, missing a couple of small ladyfish that hit a Spartina Turner. They were so small, they couldn't grab a hook. Then, I was startled by a manatee that had found its way into my cove.
I started to run to the second spot when the rains got a little heavier. Since I had my mother-in-laws birthday, I decided to head in. Half way in, the motor started revving up and down. I thought for sure I was running out of gas. In my hurry to test, I hadn't checked, but was pretty sure that I had at least 10 gallons - more than enough for several days of fishing. Still, that is what it was acting like. I got back to the ramp and checked - 8 1/2 gallons. Great, now what.
Monday, I had to help family move, but got done early enough to test run the boat again. I was hoping that in inspecting the engine, I had released a pinched hose or something that was caught in the cowling. I ran and didn't make it far before it started again. Back to the ramp and back to the shop. This makes about 12 weekends out of the last 16 that it has been in the shop. With nothing left to replace, I am only hoping that they find it is a small issue.
Tight lines and screaming drags to all!
