In the past year, Smash & Crunch has programmed one of the city's boldest roving monthlies. We talked to S&C chief promoter Josh Rodriguez (pictured, right) to get a fix on his party's place in the city. Sound Club-rap, booty-bass, electro-house and disco-house DJs often featuring a live performance.Music that can really, really rock a crowd and it's part of something that people haven't exactly experienced before. These artists are being booked around the world for a reason: Passions, Pase Rock, Institubes, Riot in Belgium. They're of a higher quality. - Advertisement

Found at Liar's Club, Moonshine, darkroom. (See Venues, page 123.) Inspiration Basically in the last year or two, there's just been this amazing pool of music that's developed that I've become really passionate about. Once I moved to Chicago, I just had to be involved somehow. Method The effort, the thought you put into your flyer art, or what you call the party, or how you include different styles of music, that makes a difference. At a crowded party, no matter what, people are going to have a good time. People just want to be around people. Low point The weekend before the Mr. Oizo party, the venue was shut down and literally, every club in Chicago was booked. Weirdly enough, [Daft Punk's movie] Electroma was happening the same night at Metro, which was kind of cosmic. Within 24 hours, we were doing the show at the Metro. Kind of old-school rave-style, we threw up stickers and flyers and just got the word out. People found out. We sold hundreds of tickets. Then the manager contacts us and says Mr. Oizo missed his flight. High point Pase Rock absolutely destroyed the crowd. He was playing everything from his own tracks to James Brown to hip-hop to house. Everybody was immensely, immensely feeling it. Smash & Crunch featuring Johnny Love and Yoko Homo goes down at Liar's Club on December 26.
