Well folks, I was finally able to upload a song again. I chose a song that may be my favorite recording I ever did with Kenny Loggins. It features the late great Michael Brecker on sax and none other than Michael Jackson on background vocals! This was recorded right after Michael's "Living Off The Wall" album had become a giant hit. Michael and I talked drums at this session and he actually sat behind my kit and played a little. I love all the different sections to this song. This was back in the day when we would rehearse a tune for weeks before recording it. I hope you like it.

Hi Tris, Thanks for trying until you got it uploaded (I don't think I have that kind of patience!) Love the song! You are right about the nice blending of many different sections especially the sax parts ; ) And the unmistakeable voice of Michael in the background is a nice listen. Thanks again, hope all is going well. Be safe - Kathie

It was definitely worth the wait Tris! This is another "new" song for me and I loved it!! It has such a smooth sexy feel especially with the sax, and the drums add another deeper dimension. Gosh, and Michael Jackson sings background vocals? I'm very impressed, I love that guy's great music talent! Oh and the bass player was exellent too!! Thank you for putting it up, it made my day!

Tris I love this jazzy feel!! Not what I'd usually associate with Kenny Loggins (but hey I only know the radio hits of his I'll admit) Don't hate me for this, but why do I hear a George Michael thing going on here in some parts?? It's actually pretty cool.
As for Michael? Well that guy was LUCKY to have had the opportunity to work with the likes of YOU! NOT the other way around (although I really did love that Living Off The Wall" album). Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it! HA!

Luv ya,
Lisa

sweet sax on this piece - with thanks to the Great Mr. Brecker.... Kenny has always been one of my favorites, and this song is very special. It's so intricate, so many different moods. For a "favorite", you couldn't do much better. thanks for sharing this with us.... it has made a weird evening extremely enjoyable.

Another fabulous song that I had forgotten! This too is one of my faves. Great arrangement. I had forgotten the Jackson background vocals... Thanks, once again, for sharing.

Very good song ~ almost has a bit of Earth, Wind and Fire sound to it, I think. And you never know where Michael J is going to turn up! It's such a shame what happened to him. All that talent: singing, dancing, song writing. I still remember the Motown special back in 82 (?) where he did "Billie Jean" and the moonwalking. I was mesmerized! I guess you can't take that away from him, but he is such a pariah now that any songs will be tainted. But enough on him - this is YOUR blog!

Good to hear from you Tris - it's always a pleasure!

Hi Tris,

this is Lothar, remember me from the old days back in Laguna?
I am living now in Buenos Aires and ran into your MYSpace side by co incidence.
Steve told me that you moved to Hawaii some time ago.Aloha!
Reading through your comments of the KL songs brought back memories of your gigs I was able to see/listen and enjoy in So.Cal. and NYC (on NYC we ended up with Kenny at SOBs and later with Steve playing darts in a friends appartment in Soho)
Those were the days my friend.
Lili and I will come to SoCal over Xmas/ New Years and will stay with Steve and Beth the first days of January.
Do you have any gig scheduled for Buenos Aires? We live in the center of town.Would be great to see you again.
saludos

Lothar

This is sooo memorable and brought tears in my eyes. Thank you for sharing this song. It's so funny, a lot of your fans seem to be a lot younger than you are, because they have never heard about this song. As a few others (amongst me) can remember this song so well. I think it's one of the best LP's I'ver ever heard way back in the 70's. This LP 'Keep The Fire' by Kenny Loggigs (from 1979). I bought it when I was in the USA when I had my very first vacation ever and I met my father, who left me in 1958) when he remarried and emigrated to SF California. And these songs on this album remember me of a fabulous 4 weeks saty with my dad in SF CA. When I got home, I played this LP all the time, never got enough of it and I put the album cover on the wall for months. So my kids and all their friends (who're in their 30's) know exactly who Kenny Loggins is, that you YOU were the drummer way back then on this album, that Michael Brecker did the Tenor sax soslo, that Michael Jackson did backing solo. So it's just great to listen to this song again on your space. I love the picture on the back of this album, all those great looking guys of the band (you with dark hair!). Thanx again for all the good music you made and still make!
cheers from Holland.

Tris you sound ridiculous on this one.  Freaking nailing everything.  I can't believe pop music had that many chords ever.  Hope all is well with you.

Thanks. I just purchased this song a few days ago (don't know why I ever let my vinyl version go!). I too think it's one of the most exciting pieces, instrumentally. Michael really energizes the solo sections....a similar rhythmic interplay to Steely Dan's Aja. Michael's vocal harmonies are perfect for the song. And yes, great drumming!
