.. .... ..

i try and keep away from politics, especially of the organised variety, far too many empty vessels leading sheep astray... and to be honest, after the anti-war protests i do feel it all to be a little futile... deeds will be done in my name to further agenda's i can't agree with, but hey... that's the way of the beast so to be honest i tend to just say hang the sense of it and try to be happy ;-) it works for me...

As you know, i am a great advocate of freedom of everything... speech, action, lifestyle... the way you live your life is up to you, and so long as you don't impose upon the freedom of others, you should be left to it... no-one else's business. Under the swathe of anti-terrorist laws introduced in recent years it appears our government has been trying to curtail these freedoms...

However... those who feel our civil liberties are being impinged really should take a look at the bigger picture... a few seconds research produces those imprisoned or even executed for talking out of turn... The world can be a truly scary and oppressive place if you're unlucky enough to live somewhere like Burma, Iran, Afghanistan or Zimbabwe...

My motivation for writing this piece however wasn't the big and scary... but a little snippet of news also from Wikipedia about two Azerbaijani guys who posted something satirical to Youtube and are now serving a prison sentence... They have both been jailed for over two years each for this...

Crazy eh...? What's the problem with donkey rights...? something so simple and off to jail... and yet here is brilliant Blightie we can protest in our thousands in the street, be heard on national TV and even make up satirical songs on post them to Youtube without fear of censure...

No matter how crazy your politics or religion, you have the right in the UK to speak and be heard (well, unless you're on the "hate" list in which case i agree you should have to shut the fluck up!) Control of what is broadcast and published is not in the hands of our government but the media, it's their agenda we see... maybe at times this is the same as those we "voted" for (or didn't bother) but which one pulls the strings..?

Anyhow... i've made my noise and i have more important painting to be doing so... Maybe next time, think before you bemoan your fate, and consider how lucky you are to be able to protest your cause with such vigour and such impunity :-)

Hugs and sparkly bits
