As I'm prone to do, I was checking my StatCounter to see if I've had any recent traffic and was surprised to see a spike of hits in the past day, and even more so when I saw them coming from davesim.blogspot.com.
For those not in the know... Dave Sim is the author of Cerebus, the longest running indie comic book in history (300 issues).
When you talk indie comics, he's probably one of the first names that come up.
So, of course, I was excited that I had links coming from his site, so I head on over to his entry from Novermber 23 where I read:
Rickey Gonzales of Pretentious Comics offers up VICTIMS AT THE END OF THE WORLD, a graphic novella, 75 pages, squarebound, digest sized. It's very accomplished material in the "Lives of Quiet Desperation" category with a multi-character cast that he manages to keep tightly reined in even as he goes to town with the narrator's introspection. A very difficult balancing act and I was very impressed. You can check it out at www.pretentiouscomics.com and this one definitely enters the graphic novel section of the Off-White House Library between Archie Goodwin and Walt Simonson's ALIENS adaptation and Jimmy Gownley's AMELIA RULES volumes.
I guess he's doing daily reviews of the 2007 SPACE Day Prize entires, but come on, how very cool is that?
My second unsolicited review and not only is it positive, it's from DAVE FREAKIN' SIM!!!

Congrats...Sim is a genius.
