Well, last Friday was interesting. I sure like the way they run things there at Satyricon. They seem to really be there for the bands and the kids. It was a decent little crowd, The Hollowbodys didn’t make it, but that was probably for the best. We drew numbers for time slots and I think, especially on large bills that is the most fair way to do it. No one can bitch, everyone has the same chance to be first last or in the middle. Other than Scratch it was the first time I was able to see some of the younger crop of Portland bands. In no particular order. JUKE JOINT GAMBLERS were probably the most talented band that played. A little "safe" for my taste, and I really disliked their cover of "Redneck Mother". Everything else was great. They are comfortable playing the divey club or at your aunts second wedding in the backyard. They ain’t gonna offend anyone.
THE NEKRONOTZz were a lot of fun. Totally goofy and not trying be anything else. Very tight, the reminded me of a cross between The Toy Dolls and The Damned. Yep, that weird. THE DICERS, are some real young guys doin’ the rockabilly thing. The Bass player, kicks ass. They only got two speeds slow and ballad. They are young and have a lot of room to grow. If they stick it out, they will be great. SCRATCH totally stole the show. They played amazing, which is good ’cause this was also their CD release party. They had just the right spot on the bill, and totally deserved to be the real "headliners" of the night. We got really, really, really drunk, had a few rough patches and made asses of ourselves, but all in all we had a great time. Thanks to all the bands and the Satyricon for a such a good time
