The very latest audio from Pharmacy Records is let loose with a
joint collaboration between Jay Selway and Magnus. It's a twinside EP
with quite possibly one of the best tracks you'll hear all year...
The Pharmacy Music label is the imprint of US
Trance genius Christopher Lawrence and although he is originally
American his very own label is based in Australia. This is the seventh
release on the label since its birth in April last year and although
that might not sound many it’s a label of quality over quantity.
Focusing on cutting edge progressive and Trance styles this latest
release brings together the skills of Jay Selway and Magnus. Magnus has
already had a release on the label and is a stateside Trance specialist
based in Seattle. Jay Selway is another American Trance producer who
hails from Washington, Maryland. The pair has only been releasing
records for a few years and has a Psy style sound that fits in
perfectly with the Pharmacy Music philosophy. This latest release is a
real treat to the ear.
:: Big Break
:: Unfold
Big Break
is a track that has been around for a while already as you may have
heard it featured on 'Global Trance Grooves', a compilation mixed by
John 'OO' Fleming and Christopher Lawrence. I remembered it from that
compilation from the first moment I put this on and when a track sticks
in your mind that’s always a good sign (Unless it's a cheesy TV jingle
or something). This is progressive Psy tinged trance at its finest with
a pumping flow and feel to it right from the start. The main quality in
here is a deeply rich bass line that layers on top a rolling synth to
go crazy for. The opening build up featuring that underlying layer
fizzling on top of all the kicks, snares and deep pushing beat is pure
joy to the ear. Short breaks introduce more patterns of electric sounds
and feed in a stuttered break beat that drops right in the heart of the
track. When then sounds build back and sweep up to a frenzy it takes on
a difference direction and hits with a gripping, tone changing stab
that adds some aggression into the mix. There is an outrageously rich
sound in here full of Psy influence and its progressive flow leave you
wanting more.
After a track like that the other side of the record is always not going to be as good.
Unfold
though is nothing in comparison to its fellow sibling as this one is
full on Trance, Psycadelic style with a throbbing Goa sounding bass
rumble growling all the way through. The beat is a warm and sticky with
a soft flare on the kick that smoothes it out a little. This one is all
about building up the energy and unleashing it throughout the track
with chord sweeping melodies and space age riffs. It may not be the
best track out of the two but its one the hardcore Psy fans will love
for its bright energetic fragrance it spreads around.
Conclusion:
It's no
surprise that Pharmacy Music has fast become a label I really get
excited about when they announce a new release. It's fresh, different
and above all its quality trance and progressive audio. Big Break is
the track to go after in here as it's just superb. Two names to keep a
close eye out for in the future as they have considerable talent at
chucking together a record. Pharmacy thought, does the business yet
again.
