"WEEKEND OF WIZARD ROCKUMENTARY AWESOMNESS" In case YOU weren't aware, Friday, at midnight, THE WIZARD ROCKUMENTARY, made it's "Big-Screen" debut! It's a riveting piece of work, by anyones standards, but from the DIY prospective THIS BEAST ROARS! You guys are going to LOOOOVE it!!!!!! Megan and Mallory Schuyler, (they're sisters, not married), have captured the subtleties of Wizardrock, which I had initially thought impossible! Using the various viewpoints of different wrockers, they were able to capture the essence of, but not nail down the heart of Wizardrock. They should be extremely proud of the finished product! I'm certain it will have a profound impact on the Wizardrock community and will also peak the interest of a lot of people who've never heard of Wizardrock. Visit their site to get a DVD! IT WROCKS!!!!! http://wizardrockumentary.com/
Now that you know what this weekend was all about, in Spokane, Washington anyway, let me tell you how it played for us! One of my best friends, in this community, is Stephanie of "TONKS AND THE AURORS". We've been chatting back and forth for the last year. She came all the way from Ann Arbor, Michigan to be at the show friday night!
Her plane got into Spokane at 10:50pm, I picked her up and drove straight to the theater. For your information, it's really difficult to pay attention to driving when you've just met someone, in person, for the first time, after a strictly online relationship. We made it to the debut on time and loved it! Then drove back to Linda's and my place. I showed Steph to her room and then went to MY OWN bed to conk out. The next morning we had a late breakfast and went to play at the SPOKANE PUBLIC LIBRARY along with Mark of "MARKED AS HIS EQUAL" as the musical prelude to the "Daylight Premier" of THE WIZARD ROCKUMENARY! (It was even better the second time around). It was the first time I'd ever seen TONKS AND THE AURORS or MARKED AS HIS EQUAL live. They were both GREAT and the Spokane audience loved them!
Then we drove about 20 miles west of Spokane to play at Eastern Washington University, for the E.W.U. Harry Potter Club! WE LOVE THEM! There were maybe 70 people. After some initial P.A. tweaking, in which Linda tried bravely to hear herself, things went pretty well for our set. I was having SOME trouble concentrating on singing however.
Earlier in the week I had gone to an EAR NOSE THROAT Dr. because my head felt like it was filled with expandable foam insulation. During the course of his exam the Dr. held on to my protruding tongue with a paper towel while poking a 10 foot long mirror down my gullet to have a look around. Since that pleasant experience, whichever physical apparatus is responsible for keeping the liquid contents of ones stomach IN the stomach has been on vacation! So, while performing, the threat of sharing my most recent meal with the audience WAS a real concern! Nothing bad happened and THAT was a good thing.
TONKS AND THE AURORS went next! Stephanie WROCKED! It had been less than 24 hours since her arrival and this was her second show. The crowd loved her! So much energy and what a great voice. Not only that, SHE HAD SOMETHING CALLED A SET LIST! What a professional! She was also a great guest! Undemanding, except for the breakfast in bed thing, and an engaging person to talk with about THE WIZARD ROCKUMENTARY. She can come back ANY TIME!
After Stephanie came MARKED AS HIS EQUAL! Mark has so much CONTROL of his voice that I think he may have sent it to military school! He's a great performer and really gets the audience involved. His song about Gildaroy was great, but it was the way he looked LIKE Gildaroy while singing that just killed me! HE HAS DIMPLES LADIES! And, it was the weirdest thing, HE also had a SET LIST! DAMN! Gotta get us one of those!
After the show some of the club members helped us load up our stuff, thanks Michelle, Brittany and Niclole? Also thanks to John. Then we all (Wizard Rockumenary girl, Megan and posse, Stephanie, Mark and Club members/roadies Britteny any Nicole?, stood around the parking lot for 18 hours being loud. We eventually went to a local eatery to pig out and continue being loud.
The best entertainment of the night was the spectacle of Megans eyelids slowly drooping past her chin as gravity overcame the muscles that usually hold them open. I think she's been in the editing room non-stop for the last 2 months! She was trying to rally, but it was obvious she was actually sleep-walking. It was hard to watch...........BUT REALLY FUNNY!!
So in conclusion. It was a wild weekend. We made some new friends AND got to see some old ones present their MASTERPIECE! Congratulations on your hard earned success Megan and Mallory! Well done indeed!
