At the moment things in Stockton are picking up, I am booking or helping to book at several locations and a few other venues are starting to allow live music too take place. This is great for bands and music fans alike(the dry times seem to be passing and who knows what the future holds.) Though because there are multible venues I have noticed that several bands are playing 2 or even 3 shows in Stockton in the same month(this does noone any good, not the bands and more importantly not the venues.) I have never been one to tell a band they could'nt play a show with a certain amount of time before or after a show(I know several promoters who do)  I never really had too. I will be inforcing a 6-8 week rule with the Empire though. The Stockton Empire Theatre is a 300 capacity venue(in the last month I have seen Horrorpops, the Briefs, Epoxies, the Phenomenauts, Nekromantix to name a few at the Boardwalk in Orangevalle and it is only 200 listed capacity)so to help pack the house and start bringing in National acts I will need every band playing, to be commited to doing everything they can to bring in their fanbase. For the most part I don't think a band should  play a town more then once a month.

Now on to Promoting, bands need to do their part to get the word out. Myspace has made this easier(post, send evites ect) but don't rely on it. If you don't already have a mailing list(at least emial)start one. Flyer for every show(do not rely on the venue or promoter to get the word out for you, you know your fans get them out to see you.) By working together we can all have a healthy music scene.
