Review on Subba- Cultcha

Katsen
'It Hertz'The Sheffield Phonographic Corporation

Glitch prog electro with hints of 50s chic and 70s krautrock; Katsen take elements from past times and genres to create their own awe inspiring sound.

Meeting at a craft market in Brighton, Katsen is the collaborative endeavour of British electro pop duo Donna Grimaldi and Chris Blackburn. Grabbing your attention instantly, their new album "It's Hertz" is filled with glitchy off beat synthed out sounds; that range from the frenetic krautrock-inspired opener, “Let’s build a City”, to the cold, sharp robotic sounds of "Chequered Flag". It's dreamy electro chic that's wonderfully offset by Blackburn and Grimaldi's impressive and energetic vocals.

In truth, "It's Hertz" is about as progressive as a Commodore 64 but it's also insanely cool. I must admit my mind was more than made up on not liking this album but despite its fragmented start, it actually found itself growing on me. Casting an eye on the annoyingly repetitive “I’m a Doctor”, and dreamy synth-pop song “German Filmstar” it's an album even the most pretentious of musical followers will struggle to dislike.

Katsen - It Hertz

As You Mean To Go On.
The PassionI'm in love with a German film star - qui chiamata semplicemente German Film Star.
