Who Gives Kudos:

Friday, March 27, 2009

Current mood:  satisfied
In the midst of all of my turmoil (see previous blogs), I was preparing to record the new CD and came across a couple of huge obstacles that almost stopped us from recording. But with the generosity and patience of a few friends and the help of my Dad, it all came together.

We started recording the rhythm tracks on Wednesday, March 18 at Tommy Detamore's studio at Cherry Ridge.  My nerves were a little frayed from all of the drama. We had a short day because of SXSW shows. And then Tommy called as we were on our way to let us know that his cat of 18 years was going to have to be put to sleep.

What else was going to happen?

Nothing really. We got everything done - in the middle of playing some great SXSW shows - the last one with Heather Myles was a blast and way too short.
The new CD is finished. I think you will like it. I love it. It's different from "Between the Whiskey and the Wine". It is country - no doubt. But CDs to me are like paintings. This is just a different one - different colors and tones. Same artist. Same taste. Same passion. But just a different painting.

I'm not sure when the release date will be. I had intended to release this one in July, 2009, but because of all of the drama and turmoil, we found ourselves with no mixing time. So I'll keep you posted.  I'd say we're looking at more like August or even September.

No rush to release it yet.... let people wait with baited breath and anticipation for the new release. Time to build some hype on the new release before it's actually released.

Well as being apart of this new CD(Co-Producer); I have to say I'm in Awe of Leslie once again.

Her song writing stays as strong as between the whiskey and the wine...and even possibly stronger(can that actually be???ha...) It was great having Bill Kirchen on the project too....Bill added a nice dynamic to the mix in the "Bill Kirchen" way and it fits nicely.

There is much more harmony singing and to help with that; our good friend Jason Allen came in and sang his ASS off....what a wonderful singer and the blend between Jason and Leslie is a match made in Heaven; that you will also hear on a duet that will be featured on this project.

Leslie's map of harmony parts is unlike I've ever heard done. This Gal(I'm bowing to her greatness right now); has an ear for harmony that left me speechless.....Her choreography of the parts just left me looking at my Steel and thinking how much I DO NOT KNOW....ah..ha....Geeeeze I stay amazed at Leslie and just what she is musically.

This CD can't come out soon enough for me....I want everyone to hear the brilliance of this project and songs.

These are real songs; Real life songs, not just "hey here's a nice Hook line; lets write a bunch of mindless crap around it"...ha....like pretty much completely everything you hear out of Nashville.

So stay tuned and get ready for "In your face; high energy REAL country honky Tonk Music" that will pad already one of the best CD's out there today with "Between the Whiskey and the Wine".

Also have to say; Tommy Detamore gets and captures the realest of sounds I've ever heard from a studio. Tommy's ear is second to NONE....what a brilliant musician and engineer and Co-Producer he is.......there is NO WAY IN THE WORLD "Between the Whiskey and the Wine" could of sounded like that; without Tommy Detamore......and Tommy captured this new project the same way. We LOVE you Tommy Detamore and thanks for being on our side.

Good going Leslie.....You are one hot Chick right now....enjoy.

Thanks everybody for the best wishes and kind words.

Sorry you have to work John - good luck with that.

Hope your cat gets better, Michael.

Ricky - thanks for all of your encouragement. I know that you are a bit biased - and we all forgive you for that. ;-) As with "Between the Whiskey and the Wine", everybody on this project was amazing - Timmy, Ric, Dave Biller, YOU, Bill Kirchen, Jason Allen, Tommy Detamore. What a gift to be able to work with such great musicians.

Wish it was all about the music - we'll just keep on. I'll keep writing these little songs. We'll keep playing. Maybe one day it won't all be so hard.
