Hello All

In the van, full of cold.  We had a meeting on the ferry planning the coming week.  I’m moving house, Kate’s still unwell, and things are getting frantic for the release of this album.  Wo baby but it doesn’t rain, 3 come at once.

We are over in Ireland ready for our performance tomorrow night on the Late Late Show. Great, I love this show, profoundly brilliant institution in Ireland, and great craic at the after show party.  We are a bit bothered by the fact they want us to mime with a live vocal!  We love playing live, and making something happen in the moment.  So apologies for the lack of live music.  We are doing a load of other Irish stuff next week and playing live on TV and Radio so that’s all good.

Steven Merchant Radio 6 Music this Sunday will be hosting us at 4pm.  We have all been having big ole debates about what we will play.  I really believe in this song of ours called England Up rise, It’s passionate, deep, and it rocks.  But everyone on our team seems to not like it or think it wont work on his show! It’s a song about standing up for your beliefs, telling the people of England and the world to up rise for all they love!  The future is being destroyed by the rich and the ruling classes and the way we are living, we can stop this!  But maybe it’s a wack song with an unclear message?  I don’t know, what do you do when you deeply believe something, and all those around you whom you trust think you’re bonkers?!

Anyway.  Have a good week, and I will see you at these gigs in April.  Tell your friends, family, and all you know.  Please, it really helps us a lot if you pass the word that we’re playing, and we promise we will give them a good time.

Be bold, and as my mate Rachel’s book says ’Live this year as your last’

Love Luke x

Hey Luke,
Sounds hectic for sure. Best of luck and love for the week.

As for your belief in your music - it's integral to who you are and the reason you make such a passionate connection with people as an artist. As one of those people who you've connected with I'd say this: 'England Uprise' is an awesome song that is brimming with earnest emotion. The political intent is sincere and relevant, personally, the only issue I have is that I'm Scottish, and I'd like to uprise too! Never mind, your skill with a boran or a celtic riff definitely makes up for this. Sometime mates know best. I guess you can have integrity without having the last word, and that listening to those closest to you makes you a better human.

Keep reaching, preaching, singing, searching, and loving dude. We love it.

I'm trying to get everyone who's ever thought about going to Bristol Uni to come to the Thekla gig.
It's a fantastic venue, perfect for The People's Republic Of 'Zloppies' as my mate's little brother calls you!

Best of luck, sorry about the forced miming!

Ed.

Hi Luke,
England Uprise is a fantastic song but to do it full justice it needs to be performed in a live show. Its one of those special tracks that you can only fully appreciate in a live contexti just like say Bullet the blue sky by U2. On the album its sounds a bit contrived but in a concert it blows you away.

However some of your other tracks are more easily appreciated and understood and any audience could appreciate their quality. Drop your guard for example took my breath away the first time i heard it and continues to do so. also Start Bebinning, Worry, Alive Again, Fine story etc... etc...etc.... I could go on and on
Good Luck with your song choice
Brendan

maybe see it as not calling you bonkers or an attack at the song but a suggestion that the song is great live with an audience and maybe some ofthe impact would be lost when you don't have a crowd singing "england uprise, england uprise, unite tonight, england uprise"

i think its a a great song as i'm sure everyone around you does else it wouldn't be on the album. butm aybe theres a song that may work better on radio...o maybe i'm talking outta my ass.

good luck in ireland! catch you soon

Dear all

Thank you so for this wonderful advice! We did play England Uprise on 6 music, the team here were absolutley fantastic as usual. We had our debates and then they supported my feeling. It went great on Steven Merchants show. He is so quick, razor sharp wit. And in truth it did feel a little weird doing that song. I was glad that we had done it. I feel so disappointed in the abject lack of firey, engaged passionate, political music on the radio/market place these days and I'm glad that we went out and grabbed the bull by the horns. But It all so felt strange, because although a passionate revolutionary/activistic message is so important to me I think whats most important in Nizlopi is that John and I are making something together, that we're both giving our gift and making art in harmony, and maybe 'England' is more my bag. Any way thank you so much for your help and Come to the shows! The first two gigs have rinsed it. Thank you to every one in Wrexham and Cardiff. You made these two gigs wonderful. Peace!

Luke x
