*note - this blog is two weeks old, sorry for the delay in it being posted. The blogs will be much more regular from now on.*

Hey all, what a few weeks i and nizlopi have had. Sorry i missed my blog last week has been mental.

I've just got back from my good friend and double bass teachers wedding, Mr Jon Thorne who married the lovely jo jo on Saturday in beautiful sunshine on the isle of white, was one of the best paced weddings I've ever been to, where everyone mingled in the beautiful rose gardens to have a picnic and danced the night away (perhaps dangerously) to an Irish cailegh band. My hero Danny Thompson and his lovely wife were there and i have to say i could barely string a sentence together when ever we spoke, partly due to it being Danny Thompson and then also cause i drank three glass's of pimms in one go. I got a wicked picture of me, Jon Thorne and Danny together which i shall frame (such a geek).

Well apart from that Nizlopi have actually done some shows, we played a charity gig for MS at the legendary 100 club, and we rocked the show, was a wonderful night of music, with some great people there, thank you all so much for supporting us and the night, i know the money and advertising they got are in valuable to there very valuable work.

Next up was Cox's Yard in Stratford, a venue we have played since it all began for us working our way up from support act to headline over the years, i have to say that our soundman al was the star of the show, it's never sounded so good than it did that night, i was on fire and thats quite rare, had a wicked time 'cause i could hear everything so clearly, will definatly miss that gig but was great to go out on a high.

Then follows the mammoth drive to west Cumbria to play Sol fest it took us all day to get there and when we arrived it looked as if we'd been put on a little stage away from the main area, a long way to go to not be listened to, but when we got up on stage i realised that we had the ears of an awful lot of people, al (who was on a roll now) had to work his little socks off but he did and i think a combination of his hard work to get the best out of the pa and our performance made for a great gig, Solfest is a lovely festival in wonderful surroundings run by great people you must go next year.

Cleverly for me i injured myself running, i have torn my left calf muscle making running impossible, believe me I've tried and walking slightly odd looking, am very lucky thou i have a physio now at the crystal palace sports injury place in the park there and they're brilliant, warning me that drinking and irish dancing may well damage my ability to run. Will find out today if i'll be able to compete at the Dublin marathon in oct, will be gutted if i can't.

The last Nizlopi festival was Shambala and i have to say the sound was dreadful, not Al's fault he was working tirelessly as ever. In the end i unplugged my monitor and gritted my teeth and closed my eyes, a very tough gig and sad that the last one couldn't have been more joyous, saying that the audience were fantastic and i hope on performance alone we got through to you, which i think we did. Festivals are weird as a performer, have had many musical highs and lows at them over the years, i guess it's cause there's no real control over your show combined with a new audience that you think you can convert if given a good chance, Nizlopi have had a good few blinders thou, thank you to everyone who made those possible, will be strange to not be apart of them with Nizlopi.

Apart from that i saw hell boy 2 last night and loved it, the kids have been dancing indian style to an england uprise remix which anchank did for us. Hopefully soon me and luke shall be putting a podcast together and keeping you informed of all that's happened recently and why we're doing what we're doing just got to agree with each other first.

All the best please come to our last tour we promise to make it a great one playing some great venue's with some great other acts, god everythings great.

Much love jpx

Hi John
The more I read your blogs the more worried I become. They sound as if Nizlopi will be no more after this tour which scares the shit out of me. Maybe I,m being paranoid and reading more than into your blogs than is actually there. Maybe you could clarify for me and I'm sure many other stalwart fans of yours exactly whats happening.

Love
brendan

Hi brendan
sorry in the delay has been a very full on period of rehersal and getting ready for the tour trying out new equipment etc...
I am afraid the only clarity i can give you on nizlopi's future is that we may not be coming back after this tour, we've just finished putting a podcast together explaining as well as we can about our future as i'm sure you can imagine it's hard for both me and luke to make it very clear when what we could be talking about is the end of a musical relationship of 17 years. But these last few years have been hard for us as well as being alot of fun and they've taken there toll a bit, luke is going away for a while to review many things in his life and as a band and lable we know theres a massive change happening, i know it's sad but we intend to rock this last tour and play some new some old songs and celebrate our time as nizlopi. As far as the future goes i'm treating it that we wont be coming back as nizlopi but this is perhaps just caus i find things easier black and white. no doubt me and luke will be playing music together in the future but after the tour we need a well earned break and to spread our wings a bit.
Hope that offers some clarity.
All the best jpx

Hi boys
I'm not sad at your decision but am finding myself increasingly angryat it. Why would two people who have something so very special together consider giving it up. I understand everyone needs a break especially after all your hard work but come on. You move people, you inspire them you chnge their lives all with your music. your songs are original have meaning, depth, colour and inspire fans other muscians alike.

To me the timing is ludicrouse too you have just produced a claasic C.D. your concerts seem more popular than ever and your reputation is snowballing.

jamie Cullum described you as 'The most important duo in music'. When I originally read this i thought 'what a load of bollocks' but hes right. You are 'hope', when all in the charts sound the same or are sixties throw backs there is you. Pop is shit, rap and hip hop are meaningless and Rand B uninspiring but there is you.

I can imagine its tough from time to time and frustrating from a creative point of view. But just think boys, your music can change peoples lives, what a gift to pocess.

Yours
Brendan

Hi Brendan,
Thanks for your response.
You could be right mate, and you haven¹t "read too much into it".
We are just putting together the latest podcast which will be out very soon
where L + J talk about what seems to be an "uncertain future". It's taken
quite a while to put it together because J + L had to talk about what they
really want to do in the future and we need to "get the message right" so
fans understand what is happening for the guys.
The truth is we really don’t know if this is the end of Nizlopi or not. I'm
sure some people will say this is just a cynical attempt to hype the tour
but the bottom line is we just don’t know if L + J will come back together
as Nizlopi after this break, twelve months is a long time.

The podcast is nearly ready, and will go to the Nizlopi forum first,
hopefully that will convey what's happening with the lads better than my
words can and will give the fans a better of idea of their thoughts for the
future. All we can say for now is they are looking forward to getting out on
the road for this tour, giving it everything, enjoying the time apart and
then see how things are in twelve months time.
Sorry if this response is a bit rambling but as I say, we're still trying to
peer into our crystal ball and work out what the future holds for Luke and
John.

Yeah it's 16+. Hope you can come. If you're coming, it might be worth bringing some photo ID, a passport would be best.

sad to hear you talking about this like it is the very end, but if that is the case then i'm glad to have been lucky enouh to have found you and been inspired.

fearne and myself (alex (fearne front man) and i have been coming to your gigs and between us haven't missed a toud since shephards bush!) are both supporting at the railway, such a small venue i can feel the energy already!

i hope your calf can heal soon, jennifer-jane is eager to run with you by the way as she is looking to get back to it! i hated being injured recently, i play football and i broke my wrist twice in 8 weeks causing no end of trouble to playing bass with all the ligament damage i did but ultimately playing has made my wrist stronger now than it would have been without despite it still being really totalled.

glad two of those three sets went really well for you and am looking forward to seeing you twice this tour, get your fricken leg up! try practice while sat on a bar stool.
