Hi Everyone!
It has been a long time since I have written anything in this
blog, but I feel that this is an important place to post things because, in
reality and as silly as it seems, everything started here on myspace and
facebook.
The Eastern Sea is a much different band than it used to be
when it began about five years ago in my dormroom. For one, it’s now a very
close family of people, and more specifically, a family that works together. It
has been so great for all of us to see what this band has been able to provide
for other people, especially for our fans, our friends, and our families. And we wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for
the occasional person who approached us and told us that our tunes meant a lot
to them or people they know.
As we approach the 100,000 view mark on our page (I know, it’s
a big deal for us) I wanted to take some time to talk about the future and what’s
going to be happening over the next year, potentially a very strange but
important year for myself and I believe for each individual in the band.
First off, It has been more than a year since our first EP
was released , by ourselves, and on iTunes. That being said, it is past due for
a new release and I am happy to announce that our next record, EPII, a
companion piece of sorts to our self-titled release, will be released at the
fall 2009 Free Press Houston BlockParty on November 14th and at St. Edward's University on the Main Building Lawn on November 19th.
It has four tracks in this order:
1. The Mountain
2. The Sea
3. The Name
4. Your House
And it comes out to be around 17 minutes long.
Now that this record is coming into the final stages of
completion (it is being mastered next week and we will begin printing soon
after) we are going to focus almost 100% of our time and energy on writing a
new LP, which means you will be able to own a product of ours that has more
than five tracks on it!
The initial writing has been going on for months, but with the kind of show schedule we keep, it
has been impossible to keep up with writing and playing. So that means, while
you may not see us play shows as much (I can hear club promoters cheering) we
will be hard at work creating something that we hope everyone will like even
more than what we have been able to give in the past.
And with that being said, I would also like to announce that
thanks to a few opportunities we have been given from RM64 Licensing Firm and
Propellorhead software, everyone (with a computer) will be able to follow us in
an extremely intimate way during our process of writing, arranging, demoing,
(and fighting about) our new record.
We have been chosen to be a part of a new PR campaign by
Propellorhead, a company most notably known for REASON, the electronic music
software, to showcase what grassroots bands can do with their new
artist-focuses recording interface, RECORD.
This means, they will be giving us equipment and the
platform to blog about our experiences to the world as we go through the coming
months of demoing out a new record. The point would be to show people how
actual working bands create ideas and transfer those ideas to a recording.
More to come on that. We are very excited and hope you all
will join us while we march on into the unknown. That is all for right now, but
please check back to our myspace soon when we reach 100,000 views to catch a
new song from our new EP.
Thank you and God Bless,
Matt Hines
