hi folks
Its unforgivable that its been so long since my last blog! So sorry about that!! Well there is not an awful lot to report other than i am writing to you from South Australia. I decided to come here to find some inspiration, some sun and of course write some new songs inbetween helping Kateo's brother Tom build his extension. Its huge! many of you know that i am builder/groundworker by trade so hopefully i am saving him some money. Last weekend we went to a cool beach house in Myponga on the south coast where we fished off the rocks and dranks some cold ones! Im not sure how long im here for but for now its all good and its a great spot and a very talented place too! lots of bands coming out of the city. Talking of which i have won the Exposure Music Award for best international artist which i am delighted about!! more news to come on that!
While i think of it, it would be really cool if you could all ask your friends to become a fan of my page. It will help me decide who gets back stage passes at Wembley one day !! :)http://www.facebook.com/pages/Seamus-McLoughlin-Band/6288654091628865409
I have a number of new songs in the works. Stuart who plays keys with me and produced alot of my album is working on some vocal tracks i laid down before i left. I trust him to do a fantastic job as he always does! besides i have the rest of the band to keep an eye on things :)
So some of you know i did a radio session at Abbey Road Studios in London for WorldSpace radio who broadcast out of Washington DC. It was so cool to play in such a historic place. Thanks to Julia Jones, Rich, Alex and James for sorting it all out for me. And to Mark my drummer for keeping me company in the car. (did you know it wasnt called Abbey Road untill the beatles recorded an album there and named it after the road outside? before that it was EMI studios! Everyday is a school day!)
I was in America for a few things recently too, mainly for SXSW in austin which was as always amazing. I saw some great bands including People in Planes who were brilliant and a band from LA called voxhall broadcast ( i might have the spelling wrong there), the wombats, White denim, and The Ting tings as wells as tonnes of others. I made some great friends too (hi conal and dean!). I met so many folk who were very cool, Duffy, Nathan from kings of Leon, Priscilla Ahn (awesome artist) Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, and all the BBC Radio crew. I had a brilliant seafood dinner with Gruff Rhys of the SFA (such a nice guy). On one of the last days we had an awsome trip down in south Texas and stopped in a beautiful town called Gruene which holds the oldest dance hall in the lonestar state. We ended up line dancing with the locals mooching around the old shops! Conal found a newspaper from 1963 for $12 printed the afternoon JFK was shot dead! a pretty amazing find i think. After that we travelled to the Alamo which for me was very special having read a book on it while on tour in America last year. It is said to be the nations greatest last stand 200 men vs 5,000 mexicans. When the last american was captured its alleged he said to the mexican leader antonio lópez de santa anna "come with me now and i will make sure you and your men are treated as prisoners of war and treated fairly" Santa Anna then shrugged and chopped his head off..
Well im not sure what else to write! im heading to the pub this evening for some beers! perhaps that will help get the melodies flowing! Aussies have the right idea!!
cool beans
