for those that ask, i run an ESP MH-1000 (EMG81) into a direct box and record two tracks (L and R). Then on EACH SIDE I record 2. if youre still doing mono, it will sound 10x better with 2 tracks (L and R)... one is a direct track (for plugins later) and one is a mic on the cab with a good position. To get a good position you need to get an output feed to a monitor (studio monitor has NO EQ/preamp added and is best for this). You can toggle with mic positioning and find the sweet spot and hear what the mic is picking up as you move the mic until the sound coming out of the monitor either matches the cab, or sounds better. I mic the cab this way and it sound like this unmixed (below):

heres how its miced/setup

you would probably get a much more full tone if you dialed the gain back to about 6, upped the master, and took out some lows. you have a great pre-mass production dual rectifier that you are just making sound like a shitty solid state amp. an amazing 100 watt tube head like that needs a little room to run. for the notes that ring out (even though there aren't many) it will sound more like a mesa through a marshall, and less like a digitech through a crate combo with that weezy sustain fuzz you get with the gain up too high. plus, sticking a stage vocal mic right on the center of the cone is usually a little brittle sounding. the best tone is usually at an angle from the rim of the cone towards the center, basically having the microphone be an extension of the angle of the cone. ....however, these are opinions, not laws, so take what you want.

..sounds good but try several mic's, although then your working with phase issues, i did read afew articles stating that there is a certain phase to the human ears since they are spaced appart and are often listening to the same source...idk what to make of it it either sounds good or it doesn't, i'll agree with the other dude, on a mesa feel free to dial back the gain alittle and crank the master but also the lower gain with give you more of the true notes and precussion of a guitar during chuggy parts..

sounds great man.

i got my shit set-up almost like that, but i have middle on 6, treble on 3, gain on 6, and master on 2.

i record 2 tracks L and R and pan them 100% to each side, and then i duplicate both tracks, add a high-pass filter and then pan them 50% to each side, the duplicate tracks with the high-pass filter give it a nice crunch.

honestly though, your tunes are great man, keep it up.
