Who Gives Kudos:

Tuesday, December 12, 2006
A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed
each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably coiffed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home
today.
His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing
home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready.

As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual
description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had
been hung on his window. "I love it," he stated with the enthusiasm
of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy. "Mr.

Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait." "That doesn't have
anything to do with it," he replied. "Happiness is something you
decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend
on how the furniture is arranged ... it's how I arrange my mind. I
already decided to love it. It's a decision I make every morning when
I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the
difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or
get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do!

Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I'll focus on the new

day and all the happy memories I've stored away. Just for this time in

my life. Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you've

put in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in

the bank account
of memories!

Thank you for your part in filling my Memory bank. I am still
depositing.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

It's good to see people thinking from their hearts, instead if their walltes.

Glad to see humanity hasn't left us entirely.

I know you cannot answer all mailings to you, but glad to see you can show a heartfelt comment.

All the best to you,

Considering geriatric's is my fortay, I can tell you that 99.9% of them dont view life like this, ( I wish it want so...) but I'll tell you, they fight, bite, kick and scream when its medication time. I got rid of the illusion a LONG time ago. By the time they get dumped on our doorstep , they need a lot of love from us, to even get a smile out of them...its very sad.

I am very happy that you show this story to everyone. However you are missing the main reason we are here on earth. It's because of God . Some people say differantely. However in the moment of a crisis they all of a sudden remember that God exist. The key to happiness is alway keep God first. Also never get caught up in the world.

thanks for listening

Tina

You write beautifully - some of the things you speak about in your blog are just such important life lessons - I would like your permission to borrow some of your writing to post - of course it goes without saying that I will give you the writers credit - but they are lessons that should be heard by the widest audience possible!

This is simply beautiful - so much in life depends on your state of mind - even dealing with illness - be positive and positive things happen!

This is so true! I've read that happiness makes a person live longer-something to do with bloodflow. I actually have to live by this since I'm a morning person and my husband isn't. I have to practice it since we have two small children whom it's starting to rub off on-the grumpiness. Everyone needs to understand that the glass is always half full, not half empty. We are what makes our lives happen!

I feel almost embarrassed that I read this blog late. Sorry and thank you for posting it. I usually read them because I like your poems. They show your ingenuity. In a way, I can see how you play Shawn so well yet I think you're more sensitive than Shawn. You can also see your connection with Nadia now on camera. The whole talk of Shawn and Chloe and being good parents kind of throws a spark out there between you and Nadia. I know you two are dating, but the way you are together on camera is so convincing because you can see your true feelings coming out. I pray the best for you two :) Keep up the good work on Days and in life.

This is good advice for a long healthy, happy life. Instead of wishing for what we dont have be happy for what we do. Instead of storing up material things in life, store up memories to take us through life, and make us happy in the twilight of our life. Amen Carol Tivoli N.Y.
