The Final Week

After a successful public hearing on Wednesday, the City Council of Minneapolis will take a final vote on whether to pass the Animal Protection Amendment, which will prohibit wild animal circuses in Minneapolis.

How to Help

There are three powerful ways to help this historic amendment pass:

1. SHOW UP AT CITY HALL

There will be two important meetings this coming week where the Animal Protection Amendment will be discussed:

Thursday, Sept 20th, 10am- Committee of the Whole will debate the issue
Friday, Sept 21st, 9:30am- Full Council will take the FINAL VOTE

Both meetings will be 3rd floor, City Hall, downtown Minneapolis We need as many people there as possible BOTH DAYS.

The opposition will be making a strong case against humane treatment of animals in the circus- we need to be there to bear witness and to hold all Council Members accountable for their vote.

2. FLOOD CITY HALL WITH PHONE CALLS

Please call Council Member Diane Hofstede and politely urge her to support the Animal Protection Amendment. She is a key vote, and may come over to our side with enough persuasion. Please keep your calls polite- we need her on our side!

Council Member Diane Hofstede:
(612) 673-2203

Your message: "Hello Council Member Hofstede. I urge you to vote in support of the Animal Protection Amendment, which will prohibit wild animal circuses in Minneapolis. Minneapolis should not be a home for inhumane treatment of circus animals, and the income from the current circus will easily be replaced with an animal-free circus at the Target Center. Please do the right thing and prohibit wild animal circuses in our town. "

3. HELP SPREAD THE WORD

This is the final push- we need lots of help leafleting this week. We'll be out leafleting every day between now and the final vote, and the more people that help, the more the message gets out.

Please check the leafleting schedule, and contact Carl to help: carladamec@msn.com
