Current mood:DESTRUCTIVE PUNK
Born To Destruct @
Punk On The Corner V
The Corner House
Cambridge
17th October 2009

with FAINTEST IDEA and FREEDOM FACTION

After the musical madness of 4 gigs in 8 days two weeks on I was beginning to get BORN TO DESTRUCT withdrawal symptoms!

Playing as part of the line up of PUNK ON THE CORNER V, BORN TO DESTRUCT gave one of their most enjoyable performances and it certainly has to rank up there as one of their best.

Another set full of surprises! As if opening with the usual closing song wasn't enough, WE BRING THE NOISE wasn't even on the bench let alone in the starting line up! However, BORN TO DESTRUCT still put together a well chosen and balanced set that was pleasing to the ear.

Musically everyone had a great gig, and as I have already mentioned everyone enjoyed themselves as well plus they got a great response from the slightly disappointing crowd numbers wise. What was lacking in number was more than made up for by the noise generated. Still those that were outside keeping Mr Grant (Nick from Freedom Faction) company after injuring himself during their set were the ones that missed out, and towards the end of BTD's set a few came back inside.

DEMOLITION RICH (DRUMS) and DR STU (BASS & B/VOCALS) had a very solid gig and Stu had a smile on his face from start to finish (Or it was a bad case of wind!). WOODSTOCK (GUITAR & B/VOCALS) too, enjoyed himself immensly, the banter with the crowd was on top form (as was the guitar playing). KAT DESTRUCT (VOCALS) moved her performance up another notch tonight. It may be a simple thing she did that has led to that comment but it is none the less one worth of mention. What was it? You may well ask and read on and you'll find out!

The Set List:

NOTHING - Short, Sharp and Sublime - and perhaps deserves to get played a bit more often than it does.
BOLLOCKS - Kept the tempo going. An oldie but oh so goodie!
LEECH - Brilliant! even if KAT did miss the bass drum solo!
DESTRUCTION CREW - This has now "arrived" and the last few performances have show what a good song this is, tonight cemented that fact.
BEER - May be it was the 'home' crowd, or the party atmosphere (this was also Nick from Freedom Factions day before my birthday party as well!) but this was the best I have heard the band play the somg and also the best reception I have heard it get.
SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE -

I have always liked this song, I loved it even more when it was recorded on the latest CD especially as it had KAT sing the first half of the intro/prelude unaccompanied. Since their visit to the studio when this song has been played live it was been that KAT would sing this intro with RICH providing a Hi-Hat metronomic beat for her to sing against. I mentioned after the gig at BURTON-ON-TRENT that I felt KAT could sing the intro as per the CD. As the intro is just KAT and then WOODSTOCK coming in for the last half, it wouldn't matter what tempo she was singing as WOODSTOCK could just match it and as at the end of that the song ramps up in tempo as the full band join in, I felt it was 'doable'! AND HOW! Those few seconds of unaccompanied singing marked as big a step in her development as a performer as when she first stepped off a stage out in to the crowd. It was awesome in the proper sense of the word.
PUNK SING-A-LONG - again was the right song for the occasion and was well received.Tonight Dedicated to PAS a very old and dear friend of Woodstocks who managed to make the gig despite ill health
PARTY (THE NICK GRANT JD&COKE MEGA-MIX) - brought out of retirement to mark the upcoming birthday of aforementioned MR G. It was such a pity that due to his earlier injury Nick was indisposed and not in the room to hear it.
SICK SCUM & APATHY - what can one say that has not already been said - ah yes - meow! For some strange reason tonights performance was accompanied by a cats chorus - hey ho. Great none the less.
EXTRAORDINARY LIFE - rapidly becoming a contender for best song - it certainly is going to give Sick Scum & Apathy a run for its money!
WATCHING ME - Another of the more recent songs and another that is really growing on me.
SUDDEN DEATH - Has this established itself as the new set closer? Time will tell. WE BRING THE NOISE has some worthy competition!

In summary - FANTASTIC!
