Finally!!! Stephen's mother Sherry put in a request with the GBI to see if his DNA was ever put into the CODIS database and she was very upset to find that Cherokee County PD had never followed through with putting his DNA profile into the CODIS system.
This is the only way to ensure his remains are identified if they are in another state. When she confronted the lead detective on WHY after THREE LONG YEARS her son's DNA was never put into the most important database for missing person's DNA, he told her CODIS was only for DNA of VIOLENT OFFENDERS?? BS!!!!!!
Sherry has been working with Lighting the Way Home, an org that advocates for Missing Persons to help her get media attention for Steve's case. They put her in touch with a guy in Texas who offers FREE DNA kits for Law Enforcement and thanks to their help...She FINALLY has his DNA in CODIS!!! This means he could be identified if some remains are found somewhere other than Georgia. Each time UID remains are found they put the DNA profile into the CODIS database and it cross-references all DNA in the system to see if it matches with a Missing Person. Keepy Sherry in your prayers that she will find her son and finally be able to bring him home!
