Who Gives Kudos:

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

An update on the Bruderschaft project is long overdue, but FGFC820 touring and work on the new 820 album Law & Ordnance has occupied the balance of my free time for the last several months. I get about two dozen emails and messages a day about what’s going on with Bruderschaft, so let me address the most frequently asked questions.

When is the new Bruderschaft release coming out? Why is it taking so long?

We are very hopeful that we can set a release date within the next few months. The new release will not be a single, but an EP with half a dozen tracks or so. Each track features different (and sometimes multiple) collaborators, each of whom have the own (and sometimes multiple) projects with their own deadlines and obligations. It's not just a matter of working out a schedule with another artist, but working out schedules with many other artists. Most of the time it takes to produce a track consists of us waiting for contributions to be completed and submitted. There's a lot more time spent waiting than there is in the actual production of the tracks. It can be frustrating, but it's a necessary side-effect of collaboration.

We've finally collected all of the submissions for the album tracks and are in the process now of fine tuning and final production. Once this is done, there are still more remixes to be completed, after which we will go to mastering and production.

Who's in Bruderschaft this time around?

The individual vocalists I will name below, but most of the music on the new album was written by my FGFC820 bandmate Dräcos and myself.

As of today, here's how the EP is shaping up, track by track:

"Return" - The "lead" single, if you will, was principally written by Johan Sebastian (State of the Union) and uber-talented original Bruderschaft member Sebastian Komor (Zombie Girl/Icon of Coil/Komor Kommando, etc.).  Tom from Assemblage 23 provides vocals. Ted from Imperative Reaction did a kick-ass remix of this, which is now available on the compilations Re:Connected 3.0 (Alfa-Matrix) and Advanced Electronics Vol. 7 (Synthetic Symphony). There will be a handful of other remixes of this track on the EP as well.

"Now That You're Gone" - Music was based on an older track written - but never released - by Dräcos called "6 AM." Stefan from Beborn Beton provides vocals.

"Dead Tomorrow" - Music written by Dräcos and Rexx Arkana. Daniel from Aesthetic Perfection/Necessary Response provides vocals.

"Goodbye" - Music written by Dräcos and Rexx Arkana. Jared from Ien Oblique provides vocals. There will also be an alternate vocal version of the song included on which P-O from Colony 5 provides vocals.

"Trigger" - Music written by Dräcos and Rexx Arkana. Clint from System Syn/Imperative Reaction provides vocals. There will also be an alternate version of the song, reworked by Mario from Edge of Dawn, included.

"Forever" - Never before released remixes of the original Bruderschaft hit will appear for the first time on the "Return" EP.

"The Things That Dreams Are Made Of" - Dräcos and I had great fun reworking this Human League classic, with musical participation from Maze from Blank and music and vocals from Voyager and Andylab from Syrian, respectively.

Who will the remixers be on the new release?

As I said, Imperative Reaction's remix of "Return" has already appeared on a couple of comps. Mesh did an amazing remix of the track as well, on which Mark provides additional vocals. Necessary Response remixes "Goodbye." There are many other works in progess; the full list to be announced at a future date.

Will proceeds from the new EP also go to charity?

Yes. We have not picked a beneficiary yet, but all net profits will again be donated to charity in support of cancer research and treatment.

Who will be releasing the EP?

Principally, Alfa-Matrix in Europe will again be our partner. I have not yet made a decision about the Americas, so I can't say who will release it here.

Do you know that the website isn't working?

Yes. Unfortunately, I haven't the time or the skill to host or maintain it. If anyone out there wants to bear this burden for us, please get in touch. For now, the Myspace page is the official site.

I think that just about addresses the most commonly asked questions, but if there's anything else you want to know, you can message me through Myspace and maybe I'll do another installment of Q&A.

Thank you to all the artists who've worked so hard and so selflessly on this project with us and, most of all, thanks to the fans who support our efforts.

Until next time,

rexx
