Mark Pistrang lives in a small town in eastern Tennessee because that's where his job currently pays him to be.  I'm a botanist/ecologist by profession and a singer/songwriter by confession.  The music comes a knocking and I always try and answer the door.  Yeah, I've known about "myspace" for a long time, and as a songwriter and musician it's certainly a good place to be heard... but why did I finally post a site here? About a year and a half ago I approached one of my fave songwriters, Kevin Welch, after a show he had just performed at Riverbend in Chattanooga.  I was asking him about songwriting and how he found success, etc.. and in response I sorta blurted out "I suppose it takes a bit of luck too" and I instantly wished I hadn't.  I didn't mean it in a bad way, but for all those musicians who have endured the road and every dive venue you can think of on their path to success, you could tell that "a little luck" wasn't the answer he would have given.  He said "Nah, you've gotta make your own luck man..."  It resonated pretty well with me, because I've always been a believer in working for what you want, so I'm now a big proponent of making luck.  My songs here are just one ingredient in my luck-laden five course dinner I've been preparing for the last many years!!
