This past Sunday (Jan. 15th) marked another anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, a
landmark case establishing that most laws against abortion violate a constitutional right to privacy, overturning all state laws outlawing or restricting abortion.
I probably wouldn't have bothered to mention this if not for something that happened at my day job on Friday.
I over heard a co-worker at my day job saying how he was going to a right to life march...it took all my energy to restrain myself from saying something to this person. And here is why...
I am a vegetarian, and have been for half of my life now. I couldn't stomach killing an animal, because to me it is murder, and it goes against my moral values. Now right to lifers, they believe killing a fetus is murder and goes against their religious and/or moral values.
Now here is the big difference...
My beliefs are mine, and I don't try to force them onto others, or even regularly talk about being a vegetarian. I don't want to go out there and protest that "meat is murder" and that everyone must abide by my moral code. That would be ridiculous. We all have the freedom to choose for ourselves, and I respect the choice that each individual makes. If you want to kill and/or eat an animal, that's your decision. Right to Lifers, on the other hand, always are trying to tell people that they must not kill a fetus, and are out there protesting against what goes against their moral and/or religious beliefs.
I ask Right to Lifers to think, really try to see something outside your point of view, and understand that you have a right to your beliefs, as do I, but neither of us have a right to force our beliefs on others.
