Hi everybody! It's day 2 of spring term, and man am i busy so far. 3 of 4 classes are art, and it's gonna be art, art, art all the time here at TTHQ!
And as such I'm getting inspired to do some new kinds of TT releases, which maybe you readers may want to get in on!
one idea: to do releases based on a combination of photography and sound/field recording. A release that would fit this category would be say, going for a day-trip, or taking a ride up the highway, or really basically going anywhere you find interesting and photographing and recording the environment, with the results used to create a 'documentary' if you will. Field recordings were all the rage two years ago, and i think a lot of people who were inspired by the idea didn't follow up on it because they didnt have the 'right' recording devices. I propose that for this 'series' (and it's not being planned as one yet, just an option that artists may want to do here and there) it's ok if your camera or recorder 'suck', so long as you capture some essence that others will be able to notice.
another idea: since one of my classes is in color, is for artists to pick a color (by it's hexadecimal value (#FF0066, etc.) which would be the album's name and also the color that the artowrk would be. likely such artwork would be extremely minimal (solid color to be precise). i thought the use of the hex number as album title would be more interesting/futuristic than using color names. I for instance have to write a 4 page term paper on the color yellow, and i would probably be unlikely to name an album "yellow" under any circumstances. I have always liked th idea of using color names for albums/12"s etc. but it gets kind of dodgy when you get past a certain range of color names. If anyone's inspired by this, holler at me, I'll do one myself to get the ball rolling, so youse guys can see what i mean. even if no one else goes along with it, i'll still plan on amusing myself with it!
here's a good link to colors and hex values: http://cloford.com/resources/colours/500col.htm
but I know some of you who create lots of sounds occasionally get stuck for concepts to unify them, so consider this one if ye will, i think it could be very liberating!
as classes continue I will be trying a lot of new things with TT. it's going to be very exciting so stick around, and participate!!
there is another series starting here at TT, curated and initiated by Phillip Wilkerson. It's not exclusive to TT, but we're going to get some releases in it here. It's called "Complex Silence". It will be a lot of what you are probably imagining in your head that it is. Participation in this one however, will be largely managed by Phillip, so basically, if you want in, tell him not me.
ok, i've hogged the library computer enough. (there are 30+ in this labrary alone, but i've still used it long enough.)
later! Jon 7
