I wanted to choose a category of how I feel at the moment, and there was not a category for Grateful.
There should be.

I am not sleeping much at night, my baby Salvador has 2 eye teeth coming in, his accompanying cold is a nasty one!
Babies need to be held the WHOLE time they are sick.
No one tells ya that one.

There, now I have told you.
They will NOT sleep while sick unless you hold them, not you, no....let me correct that MOM.
MOM has to hold them while sick, or they will not sleep.

I kind of love it...I am fully sleep deprived, but what are the chances that I will have a fourth baby? I dunno, not great. It is a LOT.
I am still breastfeeding this one too, greatest achievement of my life besides delivery without drugs
YAY!!! THE TRIUMPHS continue.
Anyway, enough of the tooting of my own horn.
Why am I so grateful right now?

For my comforts....the comforts and freedoms that we take for granted everyday.

The first thing I read on the news page this morning was the story of a woman who was accused of sorcery/witchcraft in New Guinea, and she was tied to a log and set ablaze this past weekend. Burned at the stake.

My beliefs, as conventional as they may seem to some here in the Western World would probably constitute a burning at the stake as well in some parts of the world today.

I had a pain go through my person (soul or body or both, not sure) when I read this article.
There is nothing I can really do about her fate.
I can wait for change, hope that the communication and progress we are seeing in this generation will influence even the most remote areas of the world, and convince people that each human is an individual with their own unique imprint on their world waiting to be cast.
We all have a force inside of us that is designed to electrify this life differently, add a different colour to the landscape of the world....it cannot be denied.

I will celebrate her efforts and her life today, by being grateful for my own freedoms.

Her life will not be wasted as the rest of us utilize every moment of our lives, never wasting our opportunities to express, or be grateful for our liberty.

My album is going well, the sights are set high, so thank you for your patience.
Help me with mine!
best
chantal k

Just when you think the world is moving forward and mind power goes far beyond our wildest dreams, things like that happen.

I'm glad you're doing fine, (of course my prayers go to your sleeping issues, haha) and that you took the time to give us a glimpse of your life once again.

Now to the mainstream side of the story...
I can't wait for the new album, you have no idea the amount of emotions your music has given to me. I wish you could show us even 10 seconds of a song, that would be enough to quench my Chantalaholic thirst.

Anyway, have a nice week!

Chantal, it's always good to read a new blog from you, especially considering how precious your time is these days (although I think it's been that way for quite awhile now).
Looking forward to your new music, and happy 2009 to you and your family!

Not only was I disappointed that this behaviour and beliefs still exist in the world but that in Papau New Guinea one in three are killed for this same reason.

I am also very grateful that I live in a place where I am free to believe and not believe without fear of a systemic and cultural prejudice against me.

I hope Salvador gets through quickly.

Glad to hear the nursing is going well but sad to hear of Sals sickness, so hard when their tiny little noses get stuffed and eating becomes a chore. Hang in there and remain positive for the closeness you are blessed with.

I looked up the barbaric end to the young womans life in PNG http://www. news24. com/News24/World/News/0,,2-10-1462_2449577,00. html

I find it interesting that the rise of AIDS is closely related to the insurgence of such torture. Education is what we can offer. As horrible as it was to read, I am grateful to you for bringing it to our attention.

Amazing perspective. For future reference, there *IS* a "mood choice" of "grateful" and "thankful"... Lord knows I use it a lot, especially when I come across stories like the one you mentioned here.

Blessings,
me

I agree that it is completely unfathomable that this type of ignorance prevails to this day. I always reiterate to others who openly criticize the lifestyle/beliefs of others to "Live and let live". Although I may not agree or understand others ways of thinking or living, it is their life to live. I guess for some it is the fear of the unknown.

My son is also teething and sick! You are right- no one tells you how needy they are during this time! Then again, the could never explain the extreme love and infatuation that we feel either :)

Best to you!
Love your music (and now your blogs, too!)

What a sad and tragic story. This is what happens in a world full of intolerance. I heard an interview on Radio Woodstock a few years back where the guest spoke about beliefs. It was his opinion that beliefs, especially if false, can actually be limiting. In this case, archaic ideologies drove the believers to commit a heinous crime. Beliefs often times need to challenged, but unfortunately many people are so proud of their convictions, even if it breeds hatred for others, that they see no need to change.

Thank you Chantal for sharing your musical gifts with us, as well as your insight into motherhood, which is an achievement some of us cannot ever experience (for obvious reasons).

Education is the only answer to the dilemma of widespread ignorance in New Guinea. Similar human rights barriers have been broken before (slavery, women's vote, etc). In time, they shall be broken again.

Wishing you peace (and sleep) :)

It's great to hear from you! I'm glad you and your baby are doing well and that you're even welcoming being sleep deprived. ;) What you said is true...there are people in the world who are not as lucky as we are, who do not have the freedoms that we have, and we should not take that for granted. It's hard to keep in mind when we have our own problems but it's all a matter of perspective.

I can't wait for your next album, but I will be patient! :) Take care and I hope you get some sleep soon and that your baby feels better.

The world will always be greater if there are people like you in it. People who are in a place of importance (yes not as important as those higher ups but thousands of people if not more people join your myspace not to mention the people who buy your music) who instead of using this medium to promote themselves blatantly and how much they think they are better than their fans, use it to spread the word of hardship and injustice that we should all know about so we can rally against it and hopefully make a change.

People like you (especially woman like you) will always be my heroes.

Now after that rant I want to also so that I hope Sal is getting better.

Chantal:

Human rights are violated every day in our world. Only countries that are progressive enough to allow their citizens to be educated about decency, respect and dignity can rise above the fray. At some point we will achieve what we thought impossible - to have respect for one another. I fear its time is not at hand but stories like this innocent in New Guinea will continue in the meantime. I pray that her life was not in vain. That her true spirit still lives on and guides us to not allow similar atrocities to continue unabated. You are right to feel shame and disgust.

On a lighter note your music lifts my mood whenever I hear it and I welcome it to my life always.
