BLOG Last night at the Backstage Lounge.... Posted on Oct 15/09 at 3:28 PM 32 Views / 0 Comments
At the Backstage Lounge, it was a small and intimate crowd of fans and friends alike. I was only able to stay for the first 2 acts, but, what a treat. First off, I should explain that Wednesdays at the Backstage Lounge (@ the Arts Club Theater) are put on by local musician Mike Weterings, and my hat goes off to him for supporting local talent in Vancouver at a time in this city when clubs are closing and places to play music are limited if you can't get the attention of the Granville Street clubs. C'est la vie. A-slam really impressed me greatly. A 4 piece band - 2 rappers/singers, a guitar player and DJ were really cohesive and having fun on the stage. A great mix of hip hop, rap, rock, folk and Punjabi created really interesting beats. They have just come back from being on tour back east in Ontario, and they had a really good show in Toronto. I really liked the fact that they talked to the crowd like we were all great friends when in fact I had never seen this band before. Fallan Soldier, who I posted an interview with yesterday, performed 2nd. Harris is a very talented guy, and last night just proved it. Very personable, friendly, good live vocals and girls going crazy were only a part of his show. Harris is very conscious of his music, the crowd and being the center of attention, and he carries himself very well on stage. He started with the song FIGHTS which is his new video as well. He really has the talent to become a force in this genre of music. Rap, hip hop, rock and beats can be heard in every song he performs. My personal favorites were 60 in the Tank and Hands Up High. I was impressed with every aspect of performing that Harris did from the moves to his concentration on the beats and hearing the music to perform the vocals. Great stuff Harris!! I highly recommend both acts to be seen live in person as well as buying their music. You can find the music here at this link for each artist: Fallan Soldier - http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/fallansoldierA-Slam - http://www.anom.ca/a-slam/I'll be posting both performances in picture form sometime this weekend.
