Current mood:  accomplished

It seems like the minute I think I have seen it all, and there is nothing more that can blow my mind - I am kicked in the balls and reminded I HAVE SEEN NOTHING, and it truly is just the beginning.

In this instance I am referring to the events that took place last night with the REPO SHADOW CAST.

REPO came out in November in just four screens.  We had no publicity, no marketing, no trailer placement, no billboard adds, or any of the other frills.  We made a movie that was virtually destroyed by all mainstream critics.

REPO had EVERYTHING going against it. Or so it seemed. However, REPO did have one thing.  We had the single most important element in our favor... Fans...

Because of all you, and your tireless dedication, your fighting, your REPO ROLLING, your FAN ART, your over all insanity.  Repo truly became the little movie that could.

Last night, I was humbled to walk into a SOLD OUT midnight screening of REPO.  People were being turned away at the door. Sunset 5 was a circus.

It's so hard to write these blogs, and try to put into words something that is ultimately 'indescribable'.

Numerous friends, and colleges have come up to me recently asking me “Aren’t you sick of Repo…”  Aren’t you ready to move on with your life and career?”

Obviously, I want to continue to create.  Continue to make new and exciting things.  But I will NEVER step away from something like REPO.

Most creators, be it, actors, directors, producers, writers – will work their entire life and never see the kind of fan response we are seeing now with REPO.

Terrance, Darren Smith and I have been working for years to bring REPO to the screen.  And while we hoped, REPO would have been a critical and financial success, we are more thrilled and taken aback by its fan success.

Thank you to the fans, who have continued to fight for, and promote, REPO when the outcome seemed bleak.  Thank you to the fans who continued to push us, the creators, when we were ready to throw are hands up in the air.  Thank you to fans who have shown the industry – that you have a voice… and you don’t need bus stops ads to tell you what you like.  But more importantly, thank you to all the people who have come out to all the screenings not afraid to be themselves, no matter how weird or outside the box others might label you.

I am honored to be apart of the insanity you all have created.

dlb

Since I live in North Carolina I was not able to see REPO in theaters but I was able to buy it when it came out at my local Best Buy. I watched it with a few friends and we all loved it. I don't know what it is about REPO but I loved it. It was a very very good and very different film.

Repo wouldn't be such an amazing story without you, Darren Smith, and Terrance, the wonderful filmmakers and actors who gave their all in this film. My 6 year old knows every word to the REPO soundtrack. Hope to see more Repo in the future! ...possibly a sequel? :)

Congrats on making such an awesome film, and thank you for giving us a great film to enjoy over and over again!

It's easy to love a project like REPO because it's not often that we as fans get to see new and exciting things. So thank you and the rest of the crew and cast for making something worth watching, worth being devoted to. I'm sure we can all say that we're looking forward to your future endeavors, but REPO will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who have experienced it and loved it.

Brother, I fucking LOVE this movie! I've never been able to sit through an entire screening of 'Rocky Horror...' but to me, this carries the spirit of that experience.
Plus, the soundtrack is ridiculous! Now, PLEASE wouldja come back and save 'Saw ?'

Thank you sir for being so good to us fans and to the movie you helped create.
It wouldn't be nearly as fun if you and the rest of the Repo cast/crew weren't as involved and enthusiastic!

I know i speak on behalf of ATTacK when I say that we are honored to receive such wonderful reviews from those who created the movie.

And you are right; this is precisely what fandom is about.

Thank you so much for attending our shows!

I could literally cry man. Thank you. Thank You. THANK YOU.
wouldn't it be best to assume that while it might not be a short term critical success the notoriety of being associated with something like this would be far more beneficial?

I mean, if you were to assume that-oh say-someone who literaly jeopardized their own career to come out for this cared enough to DO that, then y'know, far down the road I think the long term benefit will be more important then the short but...y'know, ain't nothin in the world for free.

Thank you SO much. I maintain that for the next Week or so you, Terrance, Darren Smith (DDT-Darren Darren and Terrance-a production Team: NOT a pesticide!) and spooky are probably my favorite people on earth. Dunno what you said to convince ASH to come down but...getting to be the only Nathan to perform for the guy so far like...trumps anything I've done so far in my 22 short years on the planet.

sadly living in Vermont I had no opportunity to see it in theaters. My local magazine trashed it, yet despite that I bought it as soon as it came to my Wal-Mart and continue to watch it, or listen to the soundtrack while I'm working.

I've introduced it to at least a dozen people, and all have come back loving it.

Thanks for such a great movie, and I'll support it zealously.

I've been talking the ears off of anyone who will listen about this movie. I have yet to encounter someone who doesn't like it.
Everyone of my friends and co-workers were immediately struck by the interesting characters, the amazing music, and the unforgettable world that is Repo!

Thank You for all your tireless effort to give this joy that is The Genetic Opera to your fans.

no Darren. thank YOU for having the balls to bring us what we've been missing for so long. REPO is a singular thing, a hole that had to be filled in our culture. Rocky Horror was great in its time and still has resonences but it was time for something harder and darker and more powerful. you, Darren Smith and Terrence have done that and i hope you keep it up. if i had the money i would pay for the sequal and the prequal myself. all i can offer is support and love.
(maybe a bathroom handjob jk)

The Repo! fans would be nothing without your work, and the work of Terrance and Darren S... And all the actors and actresses that put together this amazing piece of art. Yes... This is art, damnit!

You're the ones that gave us this bloody masterpiece (both figurative and literal). You're the ones that EMPOWERED us to do the things we do. To expand upon the universe you all have created for us to 'play in'.

Look at those pictures above. How many films in this day and age give us as fans things like this? Directors, producers, stars, that actually give a rat's ass about their audience! That are there, showing themselves, for more than the premiere. Look at the Road Tours, all of the buzz on the Internet, the sites (official and fan-made), the shadow casts... Repo! Armies indeed!

So while I'm sure I speak for the fans in saying "Thank you" for -your- glowing praise for our work... Let me again speak for the fans and say:

Thank YOU... ALL of you... For believing in us, and giving us the power to make Repo! a success for each and every one of us.

We ALL started this Repo! shit!

TESTIFY!

I think this movie is already CULT...And your current problems to show this movie to the world, will make it Cultest as ever!

I know it is hard for you.

I hope you will sell a lot of DVD later! Or Have a true campaign on screens!

this is more than "the little movie that could"
It is the movie that DID. It transended ages, stereotypes, genres, and preconcieved notions about what is good. There is not a part of the film that ISN"T good! The acting, directing, story, script, music, lighting, sets, costumes, timing... everything just FITS. I know it has impacted sooo many people in so many different ways, but everyone I have shown it to can't stop thinking about it. It infects. Literally. First some people go eh.. it's ok.. The next thing you know they're listening to the soundtrack in their cars, watching it twice a week, and talking about it to strangers.

Thank you again for this amazing work of art.
I can't wait to make it to a shadow cast!

I was unfortunate to not be able to see REPO in the theatre, but I went out & bought it & have been watching it at least once a day since. It is an amazing film, very different, but very good nontheless. By the way, that was awsome how you put Peter Block's name on a headstone in the film. I laughed my ass off at that.
