Current mood: excited
Hi, Everyone.
Happy autumn!
I know you haven’t heard any formal musical announcements from me in a while. That’s because we here in the JANA PERI camp have been busy putting out a new CD and gearing up for a UK tour. We leave this Thursday night, arriving in Manchester Friday morning, for 10 glamorous (ahem) days/nights on the other side of the road. Highlights include shows at Dublin Castle in London and Fibbers in York, and the tour wraps Sunday, October 9th at Zanzibar in Liverpool with a CD release/video premiere party. I have put that show together myself and will be playing with some of Liverpool’s best local acts: Mark Greville, The Kobrakai and The Most Terrifying Thing. The music video I shot in Liverpool and Manchester last year for “The La La Song” will finally see the light of day, making the nasty case of bronchitis I acquired shooting it in the northern rain worth it. Check out www.janaperi.com for details.
The new CD is called Catching Flies With Vinegar. It was produced by Daniel Rey (best known for his work with The Ramones) and the official release date is October 25th. The unofficial release date is any time you bug me to take a copy out of the pile of boxes that is now enveloping my apartment. Whether you are a journalist who plans to review the CD, or a friend who is dying to hear what “All Your Fault” sounds like with piano and sax on it, if you want to get your hot little hands on a copy, let me know.
I have put together a brand new band for the “Catching Flies With Vinegar” 2005 UK Tour. I don’t know what’s in the water in New Jersey (scary to think about, really), but whatever it is, that state sure turns out a lot of fantastic musicians. Joining me in England will be Jersey boys John D. Soos (drums/percussion/background vocals) who played drums on the Jana Peri EP way back when (yes, that’s him on “Dating Sucks” and “The La La Song”) and Jacob Callis (bass guitar/background vocals), a gifted singer/songwriter in his own right. A pretty hot f***ing band, if I do say so myself…and I do! It never occurred to me until last Sunday’s final tour rehearsal that I had found two pop culture junkies who remember all the dialogue from Mötley Crüe’s “Smoking In The Boys Room” video and can act it out. Frightening, but funny as hell! I expect to be in stitches on stage every night.
Bodies wanted! If you live in or near one of the cities on the tour, pleeeeeeze come to the gig. We’d love to see you! Tell your friends too!
