Current mood:  amused
I'm trying to recover right now from last night. It was dark, blurry, and rather loud. Though that last bit is my fault - never stand next to an four foot amp while trying to pick up a girl.

Drinking was not the cause of my condition - a Red Stripe and a gin and tonic, with a cup of water inbetween either do not a drunk man make. In fact, I swung by Union Hall in my beloved Brooklyn last night to catch, by complete happenstance, the music of a new band out of Syracuse: Ra Ra Riot. Best described to me at one point as "A less pretentious Arcade Fire."

Ra Ra Riot were more or less amazing; for $12 at a club gig, everyone should go see them. I wouldn't be surprised if in another year they would be the next Voxtrot or Tokyo Police Club. The show also featured The Epochs (channeling Joy Division and TV On The Radio) and Jukebox the Ghost. Listen to all three of them.

It was my first "concert" in about a year (I consider seeing intimate club shows a different animal); luckily, I didn't feel like I walked into a Fall Out Boy show either. The crowd was made up of mid to late twenties indie rock kids, and we all knew each others stories. Somewhere in college, we stopped listening to The Get Up Kids and found out about The Cold War Kids instead. Though I did tend to notice that it ws "Bring Your Boyfriend To The Rock Show" Night, it was pretty cool to just be by myself and try not to let those egotistical pratfalls get the better of me. At one point, I was talking to this cute blonde chick at the bar who turned out to be Ra Ra Riot's violinist, read: "There is nothing you can say right now that won't make you look like an idiot, because she's been touring the East Coast for a year and gets hit on in every club she plays."

Hmmm... oh well, worser things have happened in my life. Like being homeless and voting for Jim McGreevey.

Party on you rockers of the night; party on.

Meanwhile I was making out with Roy Koshy last night at the Magnet Mixer. Improv magic.
