We got together to help pay for Peter's significant hospital bills with a whole mess of bands Saturday May 19th at the Scoot Inn.

For those who haven't heard, here's what happened to Peter:

Peter got beat up when walking back to his car the last Saturday of SXSW. He saw a woman who didn't appear to be feeling well, head bent, looking like she might need help. He asked if she was ok. He asked a second time. At that point he was blind-sided, slammed to the ground from behind. His assailant punched his eyes again and again until some helpful strangers pulled the attacker off. After he hit the ground, Peter's memory is sketchy. He managed to call his girlfriend, Lana Lesley (Rude Mechs) who came to help. He tried to convince her that he didn't need to go to the hospital, that he would be all right. She couldn't tell him that he had innards hanging out of his eye but managed to drag him to the hospital where they stayed through the night. The bones around his eye were shattered, essentially his skull was partially caving in. Apparently this is a relatively common injury to those who get punched in the eye and a Houston specialist reassured him that he would be ok. In fact the doctor had performed the surgery on the same injury hundreds of times. The surgery followed, with titanium mesh inserted to hold Peter's head together. The news was as good as could be hoped for at this point: no permanent vision damage. And thanks to a thoughtful and forward-looking mother, Peter also has solid insurance, but even after insurance, the cost is substantial. At this point, Peter is back working and feeling a little better each day.
