How did your band get together?
Dawn: Kim and I forged Kitty Whip in July 2007. After discovering there were no all-female bands in the entire state, we decided it would be a fun and interesting experience to see where Kitty Whip could take us!
What's the one thing that would surprise people most about your band?
Christi: That four women cover some pretty heavy songs.
What is your favorite song to perform and why?
Kimi: My favorite song is probably any of the heavier ones we do. The crowd doesn't expect it, plus it's fun to get out all of your stress and aggression doing a heavy, growling song.
Ruschelle: 'Sweet Dreams'. I get to play with different vocal styles and make all of them work perfectly in one song.
Where did your name come from?
Kimi: We wanted a name that conveyed a sense of female empowerment. At first, Dawn had a more 'risque' name picked out, but we were told that the name wasn't radio-friendly. I suggested Kitty Whip as an alternative, "safer" name, and the rest is history.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
Christi: My sister, Stacy Oliver Feighner, who has been singing in local bands for 30 years, and our deceased grandmother who our church pianist (although she is probably rolling over in her grave if she couold hear the kind of music I'm playing now!!!)
Dawn: Jimmy Page. And my mother! Thanks to her influence, I grew up listening to the classics like Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Heart and The Who.
How would you describe your music?
Kimi: An eclectic mix. We do everything from The Donnas to Pantera.
