Hey guys,
Awhile back we were asked by the S.O.P.H.I.E. Foundation to put on a show in Ireand to help raise awareness of the foundation and highlight what happened to Sophie. Like all right minded people were disgusted at what happened to Sophie and a sense of one of our own being taken from us in the most callous way. We fully support what the Foundation are striving for and are 100% behind them. A word of thanks to all the bands playing on Sat and James fom the Distortion Project for immediately getting onboard to help this cause.
Sophie Lancaster, 20, was a murdered in 2007. She was brutally attacked along with her boyfriend, Robert Maltby, while walking through Stubbylee Park in Bacup, Rossendale in Lancashire. As a result of her severe head injuries she went into a coma, never regained consciousness, and later died. The police said the attack may have been provoked by the couple wearing gothic fashion and being members of the goth subculture.
Following her death, Sophie’s parents, in consultation with friends and family decided that a charity should be set up in Sophie’s name. The charity, known as The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, focuses on creating respect for and understanding of subcultures in our communities.
It also works in conjunction with politicians and police forces to ensure individuals who a part of subcultures are protected by the law. The Distortion Project is pleased to host a charity show in
The Limelight, Ormeau, Belfast on
Saturday 10th October. Performing at the gig that day will be:
