Why weren't they complaining when Ronald Reagan or G.W. spoke to students?
Remember, it's much easier to exaggerate and entertain- that racks up the ratings.
I would suspect it's the same motive for long-winded nightly reports howling about how Michele Obama was wearing jean shorts, or that Barack wasn't wearing a helmet when out bicycling with his kids. No need to focus on Afghanistan, drone missile strikes snuffing out civilians, marriage inequality, Guantanamo Bay or the fate of those who broke laws under our last administration- fashion, impartial school speeches and bicycling etiquette are the way to go.
