Church street is crying tonight
And nobody
even seems
to care.

The postman drives his truck
The newsboy wears his hat
"We
sell
phone
cards."

It's really coming
down now
And the train rumbles beneath
my feet
A man rides by
on a bicycle
and I hope
he hasn't got far
to go.

The deli owner
and his wife drag
a carpet
out the front door.
The man
starts
to get a
little wet.
They look
at eachother, then
toss the carpet
so it lands flat
and heavy
on the sidewalk.

It
soaks up
all the tears.
